Original Early Model (858) President Zachary T CB Base - Test & Review

Up on the bench today is a very early President Zachary T CB Base station made in early 1977 to 1979. It has the original Uniden upd858 PLL. I recapped this radio a year ago, but it was new old stock that had been collecting dust for 40+ years. I replaced all the electrolytic capacitors and did an alignment. Found out the original 2078 final was oscillating, and it was oscillating so bad you could feel a vibration through the power supply heatsink. I updated it with a 2SC1969 final and she talks better than ever now!

I found one a few months ago, it looks nice but will not come on with AC power, it does come on with DC power supply. I'm hoping to get it re-capped and back on the air. You sure found a nice box there.

I'm getting ready to attempt my first ever recap' on my Washington 858... What filter cap did you use on your power supply. I was just going to replace it with the 3300pf that I found in it... How much bias changing did you end up messing with when you put the 1969 in? Was it a Mitsubishi or one of the Hg's? 90% of truck drivers and pretty much anyone that is local talking on CB.

In Australia it's UHF . I did try an old 18 channel a couple of years ago and nothing.
