He's 80, oh my goodness, you just made me feel like a fossil. Almost there 80, that is. My memories are very vivid. Most of what I can remember started when I was 5, but only some things. Such as riding to the milk depot with my father, and and delivering milk in that old 48 IH. Or helping wash that old Studebaker car in the creek. Yes, we washed cars in the creek. Or when my father purchased the gas station across the highway, my brother and I sneaked in drinking chocolate soda. I remember when my father got a job driving Mac trucks with the compressed air starters. Scare the pants off me when one started. My worst memory was the seventh grade. The teacher must have hated me, she said I wouldn't get past the 8th grade. I did with flying color. That year 1958-59, I went to school with Brenda Lee. Maplewood Junior High. Nashville TN. Dang, that was 64 years ago. Yes, to you I'm old. To me, it's just a new day filled with memories, good and bad.

That piece of wood with the 1960's wall paper on it could be made into at least one picture frame and then sold on your ebay store.

Some of it could be for the sake of insulation and cost. 70s energy crisis and all. Same thing with drop ceilings, to keep the heat lower where you could feel it. But paneling over the former exteriors to close in the breezeway might have been to make it look “better” on the cheap.

Hery Robert and Scott. Great to see Scott once again. The ship lap on the walls is SWEET! was wondering with the way you and scott stated that the celing and floor joists run in the other direction from the rest of the house, in that so called kitchen hallway section where you are currently, if that wasn;t originally some sort of Dog Trot, where there was originally two sectons of the house that were later joined by the dog trot hallway to conect the kitchen area??

So exciting to discover the original construction. Daddy was a general contractor in Birmingham. And built our home from 800 sq ft when my parents bought it to 2500 sq ft when they sold it. I was 1q and 12 years old and helped out most of the nails in the sub flooring, helped put up rafters, etc. He secured a boar in place on each end. And I came behind him and put 3 nails at each floor joist. I learned a lot working with him. Cherished memories now.

You have an archeological mystery to figure out the history of your house sections. A separated kitchen would have been much cooler for rest of house in warm Georgia. Also the Byrds could have integrated buildings from the area into house. Also during that period they would build on foundations of previous buildings. So many possibilities! Great job, Robert and Scott!

In the kitchen of our first little house that we rented, I painted the walls a wedgewood blue (a little darker than yours) and had white cabinets with that same blue on the doors. Mom's old kitchen set I painted red. It was so pretty.

My parents did a bunch of remodeling in the mid 1960’s. The family room was outfitted with knotty pine tongue and groove paneling and quality built in book shelving-(a carpenter was hired). Pops did the basement rec room himself with cheaper sheet paneling. I ran into the current owner when I coincidentally was hired to do work next door a year ago. He had ripped out all of the old basement paneling and said he found an old bong behind the wall. Have no idea where that might have come from.

I've been following your Byrd farm videos for 3-4 years and have always wondered why you did not clean out all the trash and junk initially. It would have made it a lot easier to find damage and see what needed to be done. As for the rotten floors, lay down a couple sheets of 1/2 inch plywood where you are working. You probably don't need to secure them with but a couple screws to keep them from sliding around. It will spread out any weight to keep you from falling through. Easy to move from spot to spot, room to room as needed.

Luckily the older wood trim around the doorways wasn’t removed in the 1960s when that hideous “updated” wood paneling was put up. At the end of the video you say you’re going to “cut off” the camera which brings back a memory of a 4th grade classmate who moved here from Tennessee way back when. She asked the teacher if she wanted her to “cut off the lights” and I remember the teacher telling her “you’re up north now and we say “turn off”. 😂

Getting the city to put up a power pole is like $1500 and a little extra for the power line to the house with a box.. why not get electricity connected to the house? You’d be able to work all night with a lot of lamps on etc. and it’ll be a lot quiet for the videos Or put solar panels and hook up batteries for enough power for all day and night.. a solar company can sponsor the video 😅

I'm with you. The front of the house is setting on field stone pillars. The kitchen is setting on cinder blocks. There was no ventilation as the cinder blocks along with no vapor barrier caused the floor to rot right down to the joist (due to trapped moisture). We intend to rip all of this junk out, replace joist, flooring, put actual pillars for support along with ventilation so as not to allow moisture to be trapped under this part of the house. (Scott)
