You all do realize that the 2018 show is a live action version of the comic books that came out in 2014 that is based of her first appearance in the Archie comics in the 60’s that’s why it’s going to be more of a dark horror drama. The 2018 show is not a remake of the 90’s sitcom and the 90’s sitcom is not the original. The 90’s sitcoms Is based of the 1970’s cartoon.

They are taking a darker route based on a comic series and have made it very clear this is where they are getting inspiration from. It’s also so different to 90s Sabrina without “shitting on them” if that makes she’s. MJH Sabrina was light hearted and funny, the new one will be darker and appeals to a different audience.

I've watched both. I grew up with the sitcom from the 90's and as an adult I just finished the first season of chilling adventures. I honestly love the horror version. It stands alone away from the sitcom. It's really good and dark. It's worth watching.

I don't think they are wildly enthusiastic about it, can you blame them? It's the usual modern remakes, make it creepy, surly and dark, for modern viewing. Sabrina was light, wacky, warm and inventive and totally plausible as it felt real, and a brilliant cast that played as if they were the characters. Youd lose yourself in it. I'd love to see a good remake with all the original cast again, in the same vein as before.

Juan Duran Sabrina was not originally dark. The original Archie comics were never dark and she was part of that world. They came out with a different take on Sabrina in 2014 -- New Riverdale was released the next year as a reboot. Although the story is set in the 1960s, it's not considered a retcon. One can't slap on an "original" label on it. The 2004 manga was also serious but again, not a retcon, but part of a different universe.

It's funny how they actually had both Beth Broderick and Caroline Rhea appear in the final part of CAOS as the aunts again. Even though this is a few years old now, they both supported it. Now whether Melissa Joan Hart actually did is another. Either way both shows are great in there own ways! Also, Lucy Davis and Miranda Otto did wonderful playing Aunt Hilda and Aunt Zelda. They brought a new twist to the aunts. They may not have been happy about the series, but it did follow different paths compared to the original. Which is a nice change!

Melissa - I was a 90s kid and grew up watching your show from start to finish. I'm a bit confused that you're saying this dark theme is for the Millennials... The Millennials were the main percentage of your viewers the whole way through your show. xD The comic book this new series is based off of, only came out within the last 5 years. So if you are thinking this is pertaining to a generation, pretty sure it would be Gen Z. Plain and simple though, they want to run and look at a different perspective of Sabrina to bring this comic book to life. I think it's rather clever they are taking the characters and having it tell another story, rather than just redoing the original show with new faces - now that would be a slap in the face to all the original cast. The original will always have a special place in our hearts. I'm just happy that the world of Sabrina is still ongoing after so many years.

If you haven't seen the new show yet, please do. Give it a shot. I was quite skeptical of it, myself when I decided to try it out. As a millenial, I grew up on the 90's sitcom and was really protective of our old Sabrina and judged. It turns out that I judged the first few episodes of the chilling adventures too harshly because I just finished season 2 and... holy SHIT this is one of the most amazing shows I have ever seen. It's just different enough from the original that it doesn't really represent the old show at all. They are two completely different entities and they both have individual stories. Give it a shot. But only if you are willing to watch it all the way through. You will not be fully satisfied with this show until you are finished with season 2 (at least). The story is absolutely out there and ridiculous, the cast is PHENOMENAL and it doesn't take itself too seriously. Just please. Try it. You will not regret it. The last episode will make your jaw drop.

Sabrina was based on the original comics, whereas the new NETFLIX series is based on the newer Chilling Adventures comics. I think people need to understand that the show isn't meant to be a revival, but rather a whole new show. Had there been a live action Archie series during the 90's the same people who love Riverdale would've been complaining despite the clearly stated differences. I think people just need to get over it, and stop saying it's a "millennial" thing, because that's who grew up with the original Sabrina series. The term really gets thrown around so much so incorrectly all the time it's getting kinda silly.

Being a 00's baby as well, I completely agree with you on what you say about CAOS. (I watched the first season of Riverdale, and personally don't like it). I think people have to understand that CAOS is not a reboot, but a "reinvention" as I would call it. They have to realize that it is a completely different type of show. People should definitely give CAOS a try, however they need to watch all of it in order to understand. I feel like people have a hard time dissociating from things that they love that are over and just undermine and automatically devalue things because they are not the same, which is truly shameful, and therefore are not willing to give it a chance. I believe that CAOS was not supposed to be for the same audience that Sabrina the Teenage Witch was for, which means that the people who watched (and grew up with) the 90's sitcom, have to understand that it is going to be totally different and they should try to remain as unbiased as possible to truly give it a chance and not resent it just because it is not what they wanted or expected.

I own the complete series. I love it. I like the early ones better. I didn’t care so much after the aunties left. But the best is they had Harvey come back. The end was great but missed the aunts. One was in it.

Anyone else catch that? lol wtf. That's bold of him. I'm personally a fan of both versions of Sabrina. I've always loved horror genre, so new Chilling Adventures is right up my alley. But i also grew up in the 90's and was so in love w MJH Sabrina the teenage witch sitcom on TGIF when i was young.I was so excited to get home from school on Fridays in the fall, eat a happy meal for dinner & have a slumber party watching some Sabrina w my gal pals then watch scary movies after or listen to some Aqua, Backstreet Boys, Spice Girls and make up dances lol and that was our Friday nights in 90's in middle school. But watching Sabrina the teenage witch always kicked off our weekend lol

I was 12 when it started back in 1997. She did kind of throw that term around like we all fall on the younger side (not that there is anything wrong with that, it is just not accurate).

The problem is that it's not a remake. It's not the same show. It's like Batman's joker. It changes. It's an entirely new character with a different background. The 90's was based off of a 70's happy go lucky comic. The show was fun as a kid but as I got older it was kooky. Literally the episode about getting a fake ID. It was ridiculous. And then turned into a sorority house thing. It really wasn't all that relatable after a few seasons. The new show is based off the 4 year old comic that revamps the character to an audience of a whole new generation and ideals. Our Hollywood is no longer family friendly crack given to us because there isn't much else, it's options. You don't like it go watch a million other shows on Netflix.

I'm still watching these episodes again and again when I sit for a dinner .. These are really comforting and good spirited with classic comedy . Wish they could do a reboot with the same cast instead of making it a horror genre . I wouldn't watch anything that has horror label on it.. especially with ma dinner. He he Hope they could cast the same team. Feels so weird to see the age difference from the show to now real life . Feels as weird as seeing the friends tv series ppl are.
