The lead varies in Sunsoft music. Often, it is programmed to switch from a 50% to a 12.5% pulse rate ("2 0" is one way of programming it in the Instrument Editor's Duty/Noise), normally echoed by the other Pulse Wave. The echoing wave is normally fined-tuned by one microtone (from |P|8|0| to |P|7|F|). Otherwise, a 12.5% Pulse Rate or a 25% Pulse Rate is used. Vibrato is fast and wide (|4|6|6| vibrato is a good option), so it stands out.

Whoa this is amazing! You've captured the Sunsoft spirit perfectly. I love hearing that first tone and seeing the logo. It brings back so many memories of all those dark, creepy games like Xenophobe, Blaster Master and Fester's Quest.

This video exemplifies the Sunsoft NES/Famicom chiptune style as explored in my doctoral dissertation titled "Chiptune music: An exploration of compositional techniques as found in Sunsoft games for the Nintendo Entertainment System and Famicom from 1988-1992" now available through ProQuest at search.proquest.com/docview/1707933479

@RocMegamanX I'm not quite sure how the lead was done, but the drums are made from noise over top of a triangle that automatically slides down in pitch. The famous Sunsoft bass is DPCM, so you'd have to either record the sound from the game, or just take any decent bass sample from elsewhere.

I think they made it so that it switches from a 50% square wave to a 12.5% one quickly.

Heh, I dig it. This would have been right at home in a Sunsoft title, I'd say. Pretty well done. Not feeling the Pokemon vibe at all, but in my experience, people seem to say that about... pretty much any original composition in an 8-bit style, really.

Man, did you do this from scratch? Because this is awesome! It sound REALLY good ^______^ I'm also a big fan of Sunsoft's music. They did great games with even better music. Naoki Kodaka was the main composer behind most of their games' soundtracks. Well done. I'm going to check now your other original works. Cheers! :)

Very impressive work. If I didn't know any better, I would have surely thought this was from some sunsoft game I hadn't played.

Sounds like an even mix of the two , you did a great job, you should make more tracks like this, like if it were the full sound track for a sun soft tittle, think about it :D

@MrWeirdGuy Funny, someone else said just the same thing a moment ago. Which specific battle theme are you refering to? I can also tell you that I don't think I was inspired by any Pokemon theme. Consciously anyway.
@tonebank200011 жыл бұрын
Sunsoft bass and some of the instruments are sample based. you'd have to get a sunsoft nsf and convert it to ftm to be able to scavenge the samples and then use it. Its impossible to make them using the 2A03 pulse channels
@Mobius1413 жыл бұрын
@MrWeirdGuy This is a bit stupid but I can hear this to a fight with the leaders of a Team Past or rival Team Future of some Pokemon game (Magma/Aqua sort of team).

@tobikomi50187 жыл бұрын
EYTPS That's a cool thought! Although, the bass would sound weird if the song played at NTSC or PAL and vice versa. If I'm not mistaken, DPCM can take chunks of memory.
@leoleonvids6 жыл бұрын
DPCM messes with the volume of the noise and triangle channels, though.
