That's what I got from this... removed the DVD drive, installed an SSD, and externalized the PSU... For all intents.. that case could've been lower profile, and I'm surprised he didn't apply an internal HDMI mod while he was at it...

The HDMI mod came out as I was making this ( there is a reference to it on the box I made) I was sort of trying to avoid scope creep with the project and decided not to do it. I also wanted to a ogx360 as well, getting it finished was more important to me

My only worry would be using a step up and step down converter for power. Those cheaper units can have problems maintaining a stable voltage above certain power loads. That exact step up converter is one I've used before and is a serious fire hazard if you don't attach some form of heatsink. Having no DVD drive could also be an issue for some. Not every Rom you find online works and my personal xbox hates FTP so I'd have to transfer those through USB or burn a physical disc. Also. For those willing to attempt this at home, you'll have to add in your own steps to mod your XBOX to support HDMI natively. The official component cable packs are ridiculously expensive now.

They aren't cheaper units. The are properly rated for the task from a robotics supplier named polulu. If your box hates FTP then I recommend Fatxplorer

Cool project I was looking for stuff like this. I hope Xbox will make this but I doubt it because of backwards compatibility and that it probably is not considered old enough to be nostalgic enough to og fans yet since it was released in the early 2000’s but it would still be a blast from the past even for people like me that didn’t get to play the og Xbox.

KZbin. (Imagine tho, Microsoft making an Xbox Mini where there are 3 versions released to the public: a stock version w/ up to 4k support on 1 or 2 games, mainly SOT), a homebrew development version with a full dev tool kit on the bigger hard drive) and a version pre-soft modded by Microsoft out of the (x)box w/ bigger than stock storage and all models come with an Xbox controller to USB adapter)

can't really make it much smaller while still using original hardware lol. I personally wouldn't have soldered to the pins of the power connector, and instead populated the required pins on the original plug. and with your skills i'll bet if you put a little more time into that power converter board you could shrink that down rather significantly too. Hope to see you doing some bigger and more advanced projects in the future, good luck.

Taking out the PSU and making it an external brick feels like a big downgrade in my opinion. A lot of convenience is lost just to make a little smaller the case, while having a second box to carry. I applaud the efforts of creating a new case and everything, but still, looks like a underwhelming mod.
