We quote off of time and resources required, about $125 an hour for shooting and editing. We pay our creatives (videographers and editors) $75-100 an hour for shooting and editing. If you're charging less than $200 a shoot, you would have to do 2 shoots every single weekday just to earn $6,000 per month revenue. Our real estate listing photos start at $300, videos start at $500. Here in Tampa, FL. Did 30 images and a walkthrough video for a modern home in South Tampa for $750 a few weeks ago.

@@OriginaldoBo you say you work smarter not harder yet you are telling everyone to do 2 shoots every day for $200 each. It takes you 3-4 shoots to even earn the same amount as 1 of our shoots so I don't see how you think you're working "smarter not harder" looks like you earn about $6k-8k a month max by the numbers you gave us. Maybe save up some of that money you've been making plenty of and move out of Hernando county. (even though there's plenty of work available in Hernando for $1k+ per shoot, there are $1 mil+ homes, you just have to position yourself in their market instead of these $200k 1500sqft homes where agents can't afford to pay more.)

Thanks for sharing. I have heard that realtors are on the cheap side with their budgets, but man, you must have your editing and shooting down to be super quick. At those prices it seems like it's tough to put money aside for insurance, vehicle, travel, gas, and the biggest...gear.. Hope the FL market goes up for ya man!

I've been doing real estate photography for over a decade now. I've raised my prices a few times over this course of time. Initially I apprenticed with another photographer and I was aware that I was not capable of creating a very polished product and thus I billed accordingly. Furthermore I did not have a background in business so I had to carefully and slowly make changes without turning away what clients I did have. Gradually the quality of my work got better through on the job trial/error and experimentation and I increased my rates accordingly. Factoring cost of living and other impacts this type of work has on one's life is critical. As a self employed person I don't take days off if unless it's something important. The time spend behind the computer editing photos has taken its toll as well. These are the prices we pay which we don't see until we spent a few years doing a type of work. This type of work is as technical and creative as the person wishes it to be. One can treat it like a burger flipping job or as a prestige white collar career. It depends on the individual, how disciplined and driven they are to elevate the craft.
@jimfray3742

exactly but treating it like burger flipping is bizarre, all that training and expertise goes to waist with these settle for crumbs prices
@Camrographer
@Camrographer 2 жыл бұрын
@@jimfray3742 If large companies didn't outsource their processing for pennies the profession of real estate photography would be much more developed and command greater prices which would in turn elevate the craft. keep in mind I fell into this field via my passion for photography. It's slowed down a bit but there is a trend of racing towards the bottom even today. Undercutting other photographers because as you say they are chasing "crumbs" Often it's the ones which already have a primary source of income and aren't sensitive to the impact it has on the field as a whole. This is especially problematic because photography is not regulated like other professions are thus skill level and competence are ambiguous and arbitrary. consequently, the photographer needs to build a portfolio to prove that competence. Formal education is not a solution. as we know there are numerous educated professionals which are burdened by loan debt. The tried and true method of entering into a skilled work space is through mentorship because one's mentor will teach one the entire scope of the profession not simply its technical. Unfortunately schools do not equip people with the necessary knowledge to enter work force.

Good info bud, I actually work real estate and photography on my own, as for the real-estate photography my base here in nc starts at $150 for photos up to 2000 sf and I do 10 cents per sf above that. I like it because it gives me more flex to bring it down or help them out if the price gets out of control and has worked very well. Good agents won't mind a price that matches the work. Listing agents here make 3% of the purchase price of the home. Plus it looks good to their client that the agent is making sure to cover details like photos using a pro. And yes..... I charge myself for the photos I do on my own properties...... real estate tax write off 🤣

Im in the Seattle area, we are able to charge quite a bit more. I have my pricing set per sq ft but in package and al a cart form to get agents a good amount of options for what they want to do with the listing. I just did a 1800Sq ft home yesterday photo, video and drone photo video for $635. I have someone else do all the editing and saves me time so I can shoot more. I did an $8million listing a few weeks ago but charged $2,250 because it was alot of work. I dont like working for cheap, I know there's alot of photographers around here that charge less then I do but Im shooting anywhere from 8-20 listings a week.

Thanks for this explanation to charge for photo and video. It is so ironic that agents that sell homes make 2.5 percent commission on million dollar homes which is $25K, yet might be "nickel and diming" at low rates when hiring photographers. In Canada in the cities small homes start at $1 Million Canadian dollars, or higher for under 2000 sq. ft. However, the longer established agents will pay more for high quality photo and video and those are the ones photographers want to work with. Based on travel and expenses, we should not charge too low.

Great tip on not nickel and diming clients and creating a tier system. It sounds like a better method than sq ft where if the house is a 100 ft or so over a package then it kind of debunks the system. This is clear cut and providing examples is a sure way to get more business, thanks for the gems!

Great video. Excellent advice mentioning that we as the photographers can also fire agents. It's a super important perspective, because difficult agents don't suddenly change and become amicable. The more time you waste with the unappreciative, the less time you have to forge new, more agreeable agents. There has to be mutual respect. Having that conversation and setting proper expectations up front makes for a much smoother transaction and can lead to more work.

My buddy charging 1 basis point of the purchase price, UPTO 30 images and UPTO 6 mins of video. Additional shots or video footage are by estimate of time at $100/hour (1 hour minimum). Love this because anyone who wants to hire you knows your fees without even calling you, so when they DO call you, they are Pre-Sold, little haggling and it also gives realtors some idea of their selling budget without the guess work or calling around to get prices! Shots are digital, video is digital or DVD. Example: a house priced/listed at $350,000 would be charged $350. Easy peasy. Just wanted to share. Thank you.

There are not many aerial photographers in my area, and local real estate firms that I have spoken with are excited to be able to obtain drone footage for their listings. This video was extremely helpful for me to get an idea on where to set my pricing. Thank you for taking the time to address this. No many KZbin drone & tech reviewers address this area of the business, or are not willing to share what they charge. I'm in central Wisconsin, and pricing is the same as what you're doing! Right now its a fast market and agents can get away with quick click pics on cell phone and the house sells in hours... so they don't want to invest. I think that investment will change when housing sales slow down and they go back to fight to get a listing sold.....then they'll add u our services to bring value for their commission 😉👍🏻

I find my agents always say they want everything I offer, but not only do they not like the price, I start to feel like I am nickel and diming. I have started trying to cater "packages" to different agents based on their "wants and needs" it's a fine line between making money and charging too much. It's a competitive market.

Houses up north don't move as fast because... well... more people from tax to feck areas want to sell that $600K bungalow up north, and move to FL so they can buy a better home, bigger home, in a warmer climate for almost half of the cost of a house in NY etc. Rare to fine native Floridians in the major burbs of any county

Totally agree though after CODB and Billable units and wanting to make 60K/year salary I set around $3400 for a full 8 hour day with just one photographer. Anything else will be extra. (8 Hour shoot time, 1.5 Hour travel time, 16 Hour Culling/Editing, 3 hour client meetings, 3 hour admin time) and all of those are on the low end. So to make 60K/year at 3,400 per wedding, I would need to do roughly 30 weddings in a calendar year time frame (CODB 105,000 / $3400) So for me to make 60K/year pre-tax my business revenue needs to make 105,000. Hopefully that makes sense. Best of luck with your weddings!

Great info and well presented, if the listener actually hears what you said. Yes, you gave us the basic pricing information your charge, but more importantly you gave the reasons and how you worked to determine the prices you charge for your area. You also mentioned that video is still in its infancy for real estate. Everyone does stills, even bad stills, it it is expected, and for now that is where you need to be priced right to make a living. On the other hand video is starting to be seen as a great selling tool, but seems to have not yet been accepted as a necessity like stills. I think you are on the right track to continue to build your video side. The snippets I have seen are awesome, and make me wish I had the money to buy those houses. Very nice work. I also like that fact that you put it out there that you need to try and shoot as close to final as possible to keep the costs down, but for an up charge enhancements are available. Good product for a good price, but if you want extra eye catchers, or enhancements, they take more time so there is an additional cost. But the bottom line is if you deliver a quality product, at an expected price, you can grow a good business. Thanks.

Pricing seems reasonable and IMO as long as you're averaging $30+ per hour of work you put into the job I feel that you and the client are getting your money's worth. I did web design in the late 90s for 10 years and made a killing because so few designers were out there. When Word Press gained popularity around 2005 along with websites that offered "build your own sites" I knew it was time to get out as few people were going to pay 1k+ for a bespoke website anymore. With photography and videography there isn't as much competition so it's more of a lucrative job and I wish you continued success.

I really don't know why people would fight you on your work or pricing. The cold calling is actually something I did as well. Your videos look incredible

Originaldobo I've seen alot of people go based on the commission the agent makes so that's also another option. I don't ever think you should be afraid to be one of the more expensive photographer/videographers either because you have quality work and if it helps their sell go through then your value is worth more

Thanks for sharing the actual numbers. I find that I also can't charge more than $150 or so before realtors won't pay more than that.

Thank you for being honest and sharing your prices! I appreciate it! I do some real estate photography on the side, but I am no expert by any means. Have you ever considered adding virtual tours to your services? I’m up north and this allows me to charge some pretty good prices between photos, videos, and virtual tour. Using a 360 camera, you can do a professional looking tour in no time. It’s really helped my business. Awesome video!

Regardless of how anyone structures the charges to the customer you need to cover the costs of doing business and make a profit; Overhead, materials/equipment, labor, profit. Use that formula and structure your charges to the customer however you want. Hopefully you’re competitive. If not, look to the costs of doing business. Oh, and make them sign a clear concise contract.

Here in Miami the market fluctuates too, and continuous video is the standard to avoid any editing, cheap agents wont pay more than $300 for video and photos, it's a shame that the market is getting plagued with cheap labor and agents that want to take advantage of the current situation, like you said we have to cherry pick the best agents to keep business going, I definitely do deep discounts to my top agents to stay relevant, the good thing is that the market is going to increase in the next few months and the prices should hike as well.

Interesting view of pricing. I personally go by listing price primarily. Larger price = larger commission = larger marketing budget.

Awesome! Thank you for the tips! I share my videos on KZbin and Facebook and someone referred a friend to me who was selling their house. It was my first house and of course it was for a friend from church and it was just going to be a favor for them. I even went in with a nice attitude that I’m doing this for free. Took me about an hour and They ended up giving me a $100 gift card for Red Lobster! Went home and told my wife get ready for date night dinner! 👍

I charge by bedrooms and bathrooms and by the amount of photos and by simple or advanced editing. So I start at 100 for 10 photos of a 2bed 1bath unit. I increase with yard or evening shots. Then I charge for extras such as floor plans. Your prices seem cheap lucky realtors
