This first game is so dark and gritty. Love this tone. It lessens as the series goes on.

Glad you're enjoying my favorite game series since '06! I won't back seat game, but I highly urge you to take a moment to look at your surroundings and the level design as you walk through it. There's so much visual story telling using the maps themselves. Keep it up 💪

If you shoot them in the legs, they sometimes fall down. When, in the down position you can go up to them and press X to curb stomp them. It’s quite fun.

A thought occurred to me yesterday while playing some games, about a few franchises you may enjoy playing on your time or on the channel. Far Cry series was great fun, I'd recommend starting from Far Cry 3 and moving forward from there. Story isn't great but still good but the gameplay is the key point of those games. Half-Life is a brilliant series combining both a great story and great gameplay that may fill your sci-fi loving needs. Great to see Gears of War being played, I may well return to play those again very soon.

You should read the books if you end up enjoying the series and wanting to learn more about the characters and lore. I would recommend starting with Gears of War The Slab

Pistols are the best weapons against wretches and the Boltok pistol is significantly better than the snub pistol

When wretches approach (the little dudes) just smack em. No need to waste ammo from your Lancer. Use B to hit with any weapon - even grenades. Just be careful when you tag an enemy with a grenade.

When holding out against waves of locust: "This is sick, I could do this all day." I'm assuming you know about horde mode, which debuted with Gears 2 and pioneered the wave-based survival genre. You wouldn't have CoD Zombies, or Halo's Firefight, or any of the multiple other copycats that are still coming out today without Gears 2.

You can chainsaw through bookshelf’s and pianos that are in the way of a door :)

For the car part, it's another part of the game that's really hurt by the game being designed for coop. I can recall a segment in Gears 2 with the same issue, where the entire experience is improved greatly by having a buddy along, but it's far less and overall a more refined experience. Most of the Gears 1 levels are fine solo, but there will be hang-ups and annoying segments
