And with the Mako on the horizon, the first real hypersonic cruise missile (the Khinzal is not a real hypersonic missile).
@Folsomdsf2
@Folsomdsf2 27 күн бұрын
@@jesusofbullets FYI, the khinzal is a hypersonic missile, but it slows down for good reason. The US already has the capability to shoot down something that literally shines like a fucking beacon from miles away on radar. The plasma generated by the friction is EXTREMELY reflective. The US is the only current user of a system that allows interoperation of radar sight for automated ship defenses and target acquisition. They don't SAY this works but the actual 'specs' of the original defense systems are hilarious. Their 'target acquisition' and 'range' are EXACTLY cutoff at mach 5. As in there is 0% chance that number is real and is clearly just pulled out of their ass as at the time it was 'Yah it'll hit anything currently in production anywhere..' yet.. we know that it's range is MUCH further than that. So it acquisition time and lockon. The mako is going to be quite similar with general flight characteristics below generating a plasma sheath, with a dead reckoning mode for the last x amount of time in hypersonic flight. Remember that hypersonic flight will also cause you to be unable to guide it either. It'll be blind because of the plasma sheath disrupting all viable sensors for guidance changes. It'll be pointed at a spot and use intertial guidance to finish the flight.
@jesusofbullets
@jesusofbullets 27 күн бұрын
@@Folsomdsf2 The Khinzal is literally just a cut down IRBM that cannot perform evasive maneuvers. If we’re going by that logic, the V2 rocket was the first hypersonic missile. When we say hypersonic, we mean hypersonic cruise, not just in the initial or terminal phase.
@multiversalsonic1779
@multiversalsonic1779 19 күн бұрын
@Folsomdsf2 if your idea of a hypersonic missle is "any missle that achieves hypersonic velocities at any time in flight", then the US has had hypersonic missles since the late 40's early 50's. But thats not true hypersonic. Hypersonic generally means all the way to impact.

US Marine vet with family in the UK here. I would legitimately be more afraid as a US service member to fight the British people from 30 or 40 years ago then I would be to fight them now even if I still have the technology of today facing y’all from 30 to 40 years ago. The fighting spirit of the British people just isn’t what it used to be, it truly saddens me. That being said, we would actually have an easier time fighting the UK, then we would Russia. I believe this, for the combination of two reasons. The British forces would be severely bottlenecked between Britain and Ireland. additionally, Russia could use the only tactic that tends to work on us. Raw numbers. They could try to make up with numbers for what they lack in equipment. The UK military is both lacking in equipment and numbers. I will give props where it’s due though. The fighting spirit of the actual military of the UK still maintains, it just wouldn’t be enough to make it difficult.

Another thing to consider for ANY country invading the US is the fact that the citizens themselves possess more weapons than most countries armed forces. And a huge amount of combat veterans because of over 20 years lately of wars from 2001-2022. And another 10 years beyond that in the early 90s.

The short answer is yes! However if it came down to defending the UK from a real serious threat….no problem we have your back! So Abrams tanks with Challengers, Us Carriers with the British navy, Us airborne troops and Us Marines with British Airborne troops and Royal Marines. Then comes the Us Air force and the F-22, F35, F15EX, F16s A10C, with heavy lift command and the Us Navy and Marine Air wings. Bombers, Drones, satellites, and supplies for Us and British troops. Artillery and air defenses would also be introduced! The only thing missing are playing cards and music.

Their navy not only has more ships/subs etc, but more aircraft than both our navy and air force. They have 5th generation aircraft, while we're still working on that. Their intelligence and electronic warfare capabilities far eclipse what we can do. The best we could do, would be make like vietnam and turn it into either a pyrrhic victory for them, or a humiliating withdrawal due to unacceptable losses. Nah, the more interesting scenario is 'could the US do it alone'. The answer is 'maybe'. It depends on their requirements for surrender of various countries. Canada and Mexico fall in a day and the question is what /kind/ of force is required to stay. Will these countries contribute to the ongoing US war effort? If a defeated country is allowed to merely become a mostly independent vassal that would sit out the rest of the way, the US wins vs the world. If ongoing occupation is required, even 300 million people just aren't enough to occupy that much territory. the five eyes are only a 'threat' in the view of other countries because the US is with them.

So we have had a long time to think about it ever since we prepared for a German invasion in WWII, during the war we had a lot of very cleaver people accumulated to help solve issues in the war effort so we had to find them work after the war and many things were proposed and needless to say there are measures in place more so now a days than ever before waiting just like im sure there are in many countries but details I can't give you. Necessity is the mother of all invention or so they say, where their is an issue there is someone with an idea to fix it and if we had a gun in every hand of our citizens then it would never have come to pass, I shudder at that thought.

First off, I was on Los Angeles Class submarine and the 80's tech is misleading. My sub was upgraded and was the pinnacle of modern tech in the early 2000's. We were the test platform for a lot of communication items. I mastered it and was commended for using the (at the time) current battle space communications and had to be debriefed and then show officers how capable our submarine was. Edit: LA class subs also got huge upgrades to SONAR and Fire Control. The subs may be old, but the technology on them is not.

It's worse than that for anyone in the know. Does anyone wonder how we know EXACTLY which ship is in the area when someone turns off their transponder and fucks with things like undersea cables? That we know which merchant ship did it with 0 transponder, or if a submarine does it? The US maintains a connected network that tracks vessels along all strategic paths rofl. They're not oging to shoot the random ship passing through until it tries something nefarious.. but if oyu start a war they just start destroying anything that comes close to these paths that isn't american or their allies. The british would essentially be blind in comparison.

The US would not invade the UK. For the sake of argument though, let's say we did. I think the UK could win or at least bring it to an end in a draw very quickly as long as they are not the aggressors. The one thing about the USA is our will to fight. History shows when we are attacked first and are defending ourselves our will to fight goes to a whole new level, the god level, it's just in our DNA and there is not a nation on earth that has or would survive that scenario. No joke. However, when we are the aggressors, just fighting for resources or whatever, we tend to lose the will to fight very quickly. If for some stupid reason we invaded the UK all they would need to do is to outlast our will to fight them. Our citizens and our military personal would be questioning the invasion from the start.

In the highly artificial setup of the scenario, it was specifically stated that no allies would be involved on either side of the conflict. For some reason, the popcorn concessions for just watching the fight were through the roof! I think the timeframe the video proposed was highly inflated, because the US would have started trying to take and consolidate Northern Ireland nearly immediately, for the purpose of having much closer troop basing and logistical support. At which point, some of the closer range assets that were held out of engagement because they couldn't either base of naval vessels or engage in U.S.-based strike missions could start getting involved, such as AC-130 gunships and shorter-range transports such as the C-130. Cutting the UK off from North Sea oil assets would be part of the strategy, then securing a reasonable cargo-port to bring in land-war assets. With terminal guidance on medium-sized warheads, ICBMs or intermediate range missiles could be used to deliver conventional bombs early to take out British air bases and communications hubs. Depending on the lead-up time before the hostilities start, the shorter the war would be, but I'd estimate that cutting Britain off from all its islands (plus Ireland) would occur within 3 months, and within 6, the bulk of conventional warfare would be concluded, leaving the US occupying forces dealing with asymmetric warfare by British partisans and irregulars, with the guidance of experienced Royal troops. Definitely a functional victory within 1 year.

Aside from the obvious numbers that pretty much assures the win. The assumption of "they're out gunned so they'll not bother or be mullered" seems simplistic. If we couldn't use it at home, we'd send it across the sea to fight there and disrupt that supply line and we'd get it there too. History teaches us the UK has always been outnumbered in wars but... We're sneaky blighters. We wouldn't simply sit idle and fight head on. The result remains the same though but sure wouldn't be as simple as this implies. Both sides have things they don't let each other know about I'm sure. Thankfully it's hypothetical and we'll just continue to be good friends laughing at everyone else instead.

I’ve said this before when the question arose during my two decades of military service in the US infantry. Realistically, the US Navy and Air Force could completely cut off the UK and, in the end, achieve victory. But I also wouldn’t want to be anywhere near that island or involved in the fighting. WWII showed the massive balls of steel British citizens have and, even though it would probably end up in a US victory, it would be more costly than the estimates of what it would take to capture Japan back in the day. I think that the invasion plan here is highly unlikely as putting boost on the ground even with air superiority and a numerical advantage is an uphill battle that is super costly. I think a much more likely plan would be after the British air and naval forces are defeated just putting a homesteading Britain Britain imports 60% of food and over 80% of oil this would basically starve the british into submission plus there wouldn't be enough oil for the heat to be on in the winter especially if air strikes hit oil facility's over I think a blockade would be much easier.

It was never anything to do with monarchy like a lot of Americans assume/think it was. It would be like if right now a bunch of us just got insanely tired of it, and fucked off to start our own country. The issue boiled down to like a mere few horrible bigwigs in parliament. In this day and age the UK government wouldn’t send the army on their behalf to hurt us though I’d imagine, which is nice lol. The British public would be on our side like they were for you back then. Really if you put yourself in their shoes, it was our actual brothers, sisters, aunties, nephews that set sail for pastures new. It kinda upsets me when I hear Americans that actually hate us.
