7:10 So in case you've forgotten or don't know, Ben Carmine, the trainee at the beginning, is the brother of Anthony Carmine, the guy in the 1st game who got sniped when his weapon jammed as mentioned in 9:43. He won't the the last Carmine you'll see, the Carmine family is a rather reoccuring name in the franchise.

I’ll admit I didn’t think I’d enjoy gears of war. I’m 22 and growing up I never really got interested in it. I was wrong, this series is dope. Sorta reminds me of Resistance: Fall of man. Or killzone , man I miss those games so much.

There were a lot of official novel published between each game. They explained a lot of things that in-game stories didn't mention. Such as how the war started, and why COG decided to launch an all-out attack to the Locust you have seen right now.Some new characters also appeared in the novel before they show up in games.

Too me Gears 1 was meant to be a bleak, horrifying story of humanity still just trying to survive. Gears 2 to me, is like humanity’s comeback. They have a major plan finally. After years of defending their lives, this operation is meant to be their first major offensive in over 15 years! Thats why it seems much more larger scale. It’s because human is on the offense, NOT the defense! Side note: A mechanic that was around in gears 1 but not as prevalent is going “Down But Not Out” On lower difficulties if you take too much damage you will get put to the ground crawling for your life and your teammates can pick you up. Enemies will go down too! Go up to them and you’ll be able to pick them up as a meat shield like you already did. If you press X, you curbstomp their skull into the dirt. Pressing Y is a face punch execution, and pressing B with other weapons is like a quick execution! You’ll be seeing this mechanic a lot more and I think you’ll really like. :) If you watched the “Rendezvous with Death” trailer, Marcus taking that drone as a shield and running into battle was the coolest thing ever! You hit the nail on the head with your thoughts on the end there, much like Halo and MW the first game exploded the franchise's popularity, and they had to capitalize with their follow-up titles. As for weapons, the Locust now use the Hammerburst II rifle, and its quite an upgrade over the one from Gears 1 so honestly don't be afraid to ditch your Lancer rifle for it and test it out, ammo is plentiful and you might prefer the burst/semi-auto nature of the Hammerburst. It actually became my preferred rifle of choice in Gears 2, you just have to make do with no chainsaw. It makes experimenting with weapons easier too, as you can find a Hammerburst in most fights, so you never feel bad for ditching it for something else. Excited for the series!

Yeah between the first game and this game Epic made a lot of changes to the unreal engine both graphically and mechanically, for example more enemies can be in game so emergence holes aren’t really a thing in this game, I think they’re in like two spots in the game, and there’s light destructible environments you can chip away at enemy cover with explosives and stuff like that

Man I love the gow series, I know this is the first episode of the 2nd one but man, the third one is just the best of them all, this is one of very few series that every game was better than the last one (we don't talk about 4-5 tho)

Explore around as much as possible if you want collectibles and most enemies you see outside of the level can be shot at and killed. Looking at the skybox outside the level will so show the grander scale of this game. There are six new weapons in this game, two heavy, Pistol, two handed weapon, and two new grenades (one lethal, one non-lethal). I recommend trying every weapon you come across, just so you know what will compliment the sniper.

Regarding your closing remarks, you're in luck because Gears 2 is better than Gears 1 in just about every way. I see Gears 1 as more of a proof of concept, released in 2006 as one of the first games to use Unreal Engine 3 and show off what it could do graphically. Gears 2 released in 2008, after Halo 3 and CoD4, so they really had to step up their game if they wanted to compete. And they did. Gears 2 is where the developers started to have fun with it and really pushed boundaries, as well as show off an upgraded UE3 which now had SSAO (a staple of modern games' graphical rendering), destructible environments (pay attention to enemies' cover when you shoot it), large-scale crowd simulation, and soft-body entity rendering which you'll see in a very memorable section later (the real homies will remember the meat cube). And don't sleep on Horde Mode, it's the grandfather of all modern survival modes in shooters, being the inspiration for CoD Zombies and countless others. One could even argue Fortnite (the original survival concept) wouldn't exist without Gears' Horde Mode.
