Fantastic video! it’s really cool to see it broken down third person, sometimes forget that I take the landings on split foot. But it definitely helps me turn the roll to the side. I think the main reason I did the sideways roles is at bigger impact. It avoids the head better. ❤ Hope people can learn from this And do bigger impact more safely 🙌

It's worth pointing out that Dom has a lot of awareness of where his body is in space (and physical toughness, taking the knocks) from his competitive ice skating days. He also has a bigger frame than most. Not sure if that's necessarily a help in Parkour but it might mean you absorb impact better?

More surface area which would help with the roll out of it, wouldn’t that also mean that you fall harder because of his height what is he like 6’3?

Great analysis and teaching method! It’s cool that Dom connected too. 🤘

Great analysis and superb coaching. Dom is known as the goat of big diving fronts but it is under appreciated that he is also the goat of rolls.

I wondered how it didn’t hurt for Dom to fall on his side from a height of 2-3 floors

Honestly, having my sports origin in martial arts and enhanced it with parkour, I found it hard to do the regular roll in parkour the way I did it in martial arts, allthough they are pretty much the same, I think. On mats it was allways no problem but on regular floors I start feeling my upper shoulderblade bone and the floor squeezing my skin, making it painful to roll like that after just a few rolls. So I thought I was doing it wrong and I maybe do, but after all this years having this type of roll becoming second nature, I just couldn't get it changed. So during training against what I learned and practiced for all the years before, the martial arts roll, I figured that the only painfree roll feels much more like a sidways roll and also looks inappropriate in terms of parkour rolls, it just works (if done correctly) painfree all the way for houndreds of times. Obviously it is not converting to a lot of forward momentum but it terms of avoiding injuries I rather roll sideways now and lose a split second in speed than breaking my body. And this analysis from you guys helped me understanding that so much better now. Very great analysis. Keep it up! Quality content = great content >> much content

I am a beginner and not yet tried big jumps with shoulder roll but when I practiced them just from 6ft on the hard ground like marble. I realized there definitely is something else about shoulder roll when doing on hard ground or if the impact is too much and literally noticed Dom and some other best athlete doing a side roll and even rolling using their hips.

@@originsparkour i rewatched the video after 3 months and noticed problems with my form, thanks for reminding me about the basics! As time went on and as i forgot more about the video's basics (also didn't roll for quite some time), I started to roll on the bony part of my shoulder as well as not knowing how to tuck my head in correctly
