Meet the new ProPilot X Calibre 400 Laser. Its 39mm case and bracelet are both in titanium, and it’s powered by our game-changing Calibre 400 five-day automatic. But the story this time is in its colourful dial, which is created using an innovative lasering technique never seen in watchmaking before. Incredibly, there’s not a drop of colour pigment in it. I think the watch is brilliant. Love pro pilot case, bezel, bracelet, and that it’s titanium and the dial is magic, one of a kind. I’m rarely in low m-light conditions so the legibility doesn’t concern me. Again, dial won’t be for everyone, many prefer muted dials, but I LOVE watches that pop and having tried it on at an AD I was mesmerized. I’ll be picking one up for my birthday, but to each his or her own. Oh, while I love applied indices here it would have taken away from the dial.

Thats few enough Jeremy but for me I'd go with the Kermit model as the green really does stand out , But let me know what you think of it when you get it 👍🏻

Love Oris and have owned several, although they haven't released anything which appeals to me for a while,. This watch could be great, but would really like to see Oris upgrade that flat dial, which I don't think suits the modern, industrial look, and seems cheap next to the excellent case and bracelet. Would love to see it with applied logo and indices. As always, thanks for the video!!

I honestly believe there base model with the blue dial is the way to go plus it over £500 cheaper but as you say give it some applied marks or even an applied logo

I've said this for a while. The bracelet is fantastic and good looking case too. But the dial is just so flat, even with these colours. Applied indices and logo would really make it pop and give it a more premium appearance.

Wearing the blue dial (2022 original colour) now and they actually dont have a half link, but theh do have a 1.5 link in te box to help with sizing. So by removing two links and adding the 1.5 you can downsize by a half, and vice versa if you remove one link and add the 1.5 you go up by a half. Edit: great review by the way, as always. I got my blue about two weeks before the laser was announced and honestly it's cool but I wouldn't have paid the nearly 30% premium (comparing MSRP in Canada where I live) for it, especially given the reduced readability. I love mine though!

Hi Barry, if Grand Seiko did this dial we would all be really excited, but then GS watches have faceted indices which catch and reflect the smallest level of light. So I think that this is a design problem which should never have made it into production. The other aspects of the watch are fine though, but the situation that you've highlighted is the sort of mistake a microbrand might make on their first attempt... Yeah conceding this is the range topper I somehow find it missed the mark even a different set of hands would of helped it out or as John said some applied hour marks , what were they thinking 🤔

Turns out it does have AR on both sides but its hard to tell as it doesn't do much

the kermit version is my fave. This has poor visibility and the black hands dont look as good as white lume filled ones.

The Kermit is cool my granddad has one , it's the very one I reviewed in fact. This one could of been so much better with some different hands or applied hour markers

Gorgeous watch though hard to read, they just removed the date complication and slapped a heated brushed titanium dial and rebranded it as "laser tech" dial, theres nothing special here, that's how titanium react when heated, so they charge a full price with buzz words like laser while removing features. The ProPilot X serie just need some sunburst deep blue, silver, and black or maybe even pearl-white dial and this can be one of the most beautiful serie of watches i'v seen.

I know what you mean about heated titanium but this does has a different look to it (I used use it in show car builds) This changes colours in sun light which tempered titanium doesn't Sir. I do agree with the dial colours you mentioned 👍🏻

It's like they discovered the process but didn't know how to do anything creative with it. These colours are effectively just a frequency and/or burn time sweep. It's a calibration test, not a dial. I'm thinking that anyone could have programmed that laser on their first try. Oris doesn't impress me. What I said about that laser dial reminds me of that Aquis Date Upcycle, with PET plastic dials. They just found a way to package something random into a watch with no regard for how it looks and whether the rest of the dial (hands, indices, printing) was copacetic. However, there must be some demand for barely-readable dials, and I just don't "get it".

I don't mined the tail but it really needs some applied hour makers and different hands. I still take a standard model over this one everyday of the week.

They are attractive watches but I've yet to see one with a dial colour that I feel I could live with long term, they just appear to be too fashionable - if they ever produce one with a black dial and white Arabic numerals I'd probably be interested.

Terrible watch for the money! They call it the Propilot but the first thing a pilot watch should be is easy to read. This one does not have this characteristic. Also, no micro adjust on the bracelet and underwhelming lume. I think this could have been a great watch but they decided to cut some corners. Nice review, though!

Too pricey for a gimmick. Feels like Oris is running out of ideas. Lost interest in the brand after a total debacle servicing my 2017 Diver 65 numeral at an Oris service center. It's all fun untill you hand Oris your watch for service. Terrible customer service. You have been warned!

I just serviced my 2019 65 Diver myself and have another one coming in for a service the start of Jan I believe it has a broken mainspring . What was the problem you had ?
