"I'm a child of Osun... I'm a child of Obatala" are commonly heard statements nowadays. But are they accurate? Orisa are not personality types. They are principles of life that govern everything from natural phenomena to human destiny. In my work, I have found that many people seek out orisa, when in reality, they want explanations for their behaviors and quirks. Then, when they are faced with the level of commitment that orisa requires they are overwhelmed. What is the solution? What's the best way to approach orisa lifestyle so that you have realistic expectations?

Thank you. I'm finding grounded insights on this channel. Although I'm an elderly (75) black lady settled for 40 years in an entirely different spiritual tradition, I'm definitely Subscribing to your presentations on Orisha-related culture, because: No matter where you find it, wisdom is wisdom. Ditto the aptitude for careful and impartial analysis of psycho-socio-cultural situations.

Personally, the orishas or any deity picks you, not the other way around. I consider myself a child of Elegua, because he has shown himself more often in my dreams than any other deity. The fact he shows himself as a child demonstrates my connections with children. As a teacher, this makes sense. He is teaching me to not be so hard on myself, because I can get really nasty with myself. I still don't know my final path in this life journey. I'm still blocked so many ways. I need Elegua to life this blockage so I can move on and be the best I can be while helping others to do the same. I've been told and seen so many signs that I need to be initiated, though somewhere within I am meant for a deeper spiritual connection. I don't know. I have to be connected with a trusted Baba on this and see. There is a trusted medium in the family who is helping me on this. While waiting on that, I am paying attention to your videos and saving up to get your book to read more about this.

Orishas are bigger than deities, your Ori chooses who you belong to.

I do not have Obatala by personality and no, I am not an Ifa practitioner; however, I am in contact with Obatala a lot because of my troubled past, yet a shaman priest told me that I will meet a man named White Cloud. Ironically, I can't drink, smoke, chew, dip, snort, or shoot up any drug.

Ashe! But the non-chill demon people get crowned Obatala, the motherless child gets crowned Yemaya, those ugly inside and out end up with Oshun, so on and so forth. Orisha is often to polarize our being.

that might be true in places where people arbitrarily assign orisa to others, but in the west african tradition, it is a question of blood. orisa is ancestry.

Oh no, I meant that as a point of observation....not like people are evaluating character and assigning Orisha.
