I've been listening to Frank Zappa's music since 1967 but somehow I missed this masterpiece until yesterday. Now I've listened to many versions, including piano, violin and classical guitar, all of which move me to tears. Doing this as a percussion piece is not the most obvious approach but it works just fine ( I do agree that the drum kit could be dispensed with) and beautifully honors Frank's love of percussion. It must have been a thrill for the musicians too. Peace and mercy.

Let's hope our comments will be of some use in the future for whoever may read them. This was uploaded on September 2008. Now, this is just over 8 years old. If our comments could reach all of them after all these days, weeks, months and even years, it would surely be a bit late for them to do something about it. If they are not playing together anymore, a mix wouldn't be too much to ask (or do it ourselves and stop asking others to do do what we'd want!). It's nice to read an agreeing opinion. Cheers!

@voluntaryist: Don't worry. It's better a bit late than never . . . but two years?!!! Did you get incarcerated or what? (Just joking) Two years indeed and I'm guessing pretty close to the date by a few days, more or less. Cheers!

Well said. It accents the way the Main -> Bridge is generated by a shift in mode of the melody. What does FZ have to say about the blues?

A dozen xylophones and everybody has sheet music. You don't see that every day. At least the Europeans remember quality from a great composer.
@timoj245 жыл бұрын
Donald Whittaker ... not all xylophones, looks like several marimbas too ... i had a person tell me that Franks music was “just stupid xylophone music” and I still jokingly call it that because it’s funny... and remember, he did start off as a percussionist ( drummer ) VERY early in his musical journey ... ah ... thank you Frank for all the years of pure enjoyment and yes it is awesome that these pieces will be played forever because they are SO beautiful...

this has horns playing discordant tones and they really do the song justice. it's a hard one to re-do. nice attempt. this song really should have guitar, since it's about an imaginary guitar solo. don't you think(not an actual question). please do not respond to me. I do not care what you think.

That unnecessary grace note -- I guess an F? -- before Zappa's high G# is _terrible_ . Like something a wav-to-midi converter would produce. Amazing how much damage one note can do.
