Ah! And lovely videos of orkney and dry stone walls. Such an art form.

Hi, this is Tom's wife, Rhonda. The stone walls (dykes) are some of my favorite sights here. Most people would get bored with endless footage of lichen-furred walls, so I have to keep the length down in the videos, so I'm happy that you like them! 😄

@orkneyology2407 can I ask, what was your methodology for reaching out to people, researching, and compiling these stories. I also come from an island chain with a unique storytelling culture which is severely under-reported. I'd like to do the same for the Virgin Islands

@@Neocyberman1 We have a page on our website that tells the story of how my gathering and sharing of Orkney folktales came about, which I'll link to here. Thank you, most sincerely, for creating and sharing this marvelous video! I am delighted to hear the Orcadian folk tales, and delighted as well to see the lovely sights of the region. Truly, this vieo is a treasure. Twas nice to hear at least one story regarding the Selkie folk which didn't revolve around humans stealing their poor sealskins. I never was terribly fond of the whole forced-marriage-by-skin-theft motif. It might be grand to be born a half-Selkie, inheriting the mysteries of the lands beneath the waves and the lands above the water. Thanks again, and may your new year be blessed. --N

Hi, Naomi. Thank you for your kind comments, and I completely agree with you about the selkie tales. There are a few more scattered about in the other videos in the series, some of which follow tradition and some that definitely don't! All our best to you in the new year too.
