in his defense he was really bottle necked hard there cadia gives a massive debuff to demoniac beings and the whole area is super well defended and there is like how much 4 battlefleets in such narrow area ? this is unheard of elsewhere . you get 1 battle fleet per sector or subsector but here there is like 4 + the mechanicus and space marines and others.

@@Dokattak its called a bottle neck mate. remember the 300 ? you think they stood against persians because they were super humans or because they were in a bottle neck and phalanx formation ? Cadia is 1 bottle neck and 2 easily supported by over 4 or 5 battle fleets ( most sectors have only 1 or 2 battle fleets). cadia is not just a simple planet like do you even read the lore ?

IIRC, this is mainly because Games Workshop based the Fall of Cadia on a series of actual games held at a special event. Loads of players brough their own armies to individual games to 'wargame' the 13th Black Crusade. If the Imperial forces had won at the event, Cadia would still be there.

It's not overkill if the number of kills increases the more ammo you spend and the number of casualties lowers the more armor you add. The thing about WH40K is battles are never of detail and somehow resources are plentiful enough that can they be spent on even minimal gains.

I like the bit of lore stating that if the dacades long conflict between the ork empires of Dregruk and Gathrog had been resolved, or if the two ork warlords joined forces against Abaddons 13th black crusade at Cadia (much like Ghazghkull and Nazdreg), then they could have severely disrupted Abaddons plans for galactic conquest, which would have saved the entire galaxy from annihilation. Yet the two warlords were never interested in fighting Abaddon, seeing as they were having a perfectly good scrap between each other. Always found that quite amusing

It's so easy to mock Abby for his crusades not just because he never got as far as he wanted with any of them really (save for that one where they despoiled the tomb of some saint, preventing total imperial victory in the future), but also because he only took Cadia down because he literally *crashed an entire damn Blackstone fortress into it.* Even in his one 'successful' attack, he only won because the thing just so happened to actually destroy the entire planet. It weren't his forces that took the W on Cadia, it was a desperate act that did.

After all, chaos is inevitable to some extend, the corrupted regiment killing most of the head of command being a perfect example of it, as we knew it would happen one day, much like a plague eventually killing a dying host. If anything, Abaddon is just a prime example of either the chaos gods being massive trolls by not letting him ever die but also not letting him win this easily, or of how not even chaos can save someone from being a massive idiot. (most of the time.) (Ps: No problem man, I find your videos very entertaining and original, a much needed breather compared to the endless amounts of deep dives into lore that go on for hours over hours. It's fun and refreshing.)

It is pretty funny the chaos gods seem to constantly troll their own champions. And thanks again! At that point, the Fortress was disabled, his 'daughter' had seemingly lost control of it, the pylons were closing the Eye of Terror, and his counterattack had been repelled. His options were either a slow, costly ground campaign on Cadia, giving the Imperium more time to rally reinforcements, or yeet the Blackstone Fortress into the planet, a more than worthwhile trade to Abaddon since it opened the Eye of Terror. There's also the second Blackstone Fortress Abaddon gave to Huron Blackheart, which he could probably 'repossess' whenever he wants.

The Imperium suffered another defeat that was as bad if not worse than the fall of Cadia 10,000 years ago and it wasn't the Emperor's fall. The drop site massacre. There is a reason why the Ultramarines have so many successor chapters and the Salamanders don't. Some of the legions never recovered from the near 100% losses they suffered during the opening shots of the Horus Heresy even 10,000 years later.

It wouldn't be that big of a deal if the Emperor was around and lifted some of the standards of the ascension procedure or introduced Corax's Raptor Project to all Loyalist Legions for a time. The loss of the Emperor in general is just the biggest defeat in the Imperiums history.

@@dean2521 Space marines very slowly grow new geneseed in their body. Don't remember the exact mechanics but let's say you use "1" geneseed to create a space marine. Eventually after god knows how long, if that space marine were to die and their geneseed harvested, you would get "2" geneseed back. It's a very slow process and each geneseed lost is a stain on the chapters honour, a piece of their history, the legacy of one of their brothers gone forever. With how many died during the dropsite massacre, some of the legions lost the vast majority of their geneseed that day. Hence why there are so few salamander compared to ultramarine successor chapters.

My favorite part was when guardsmen entered the evac shuttles they were congratulated by space marines for their dedication and bravery. A space marine thanking a guardsmen for doing their duty till the very end A space marine showing respect to the guardsmen Thats how big the fall of cadia was
