I feel that I have to comment, again. As musicians pass, one by one, my generation is saddened, as are generations before me. The best of the best for me is Freddie, Bowie, Prince, Tom Petty. To never hear their voice or hear new music makes me feel nostalgic. However, once in a lifetime someone special comes around, once in a lifetime and you get chills each and every time you hear his voice. Andrew is that person. I am so blessed to live in his time.

I was 16 when I was in this room hearing him play this live, I was in awe. I rediscover it every year or so and it blows my mind every time. Such a masterpiece of a song, only made more heart wrenching by this beautiful cover. So beautiful.

Lyrics They pulled in just behind the bridge He lays her down, he frowns Gee my life's a funny thing, am I Still too young? He kissed her then and there She took his ring, took his babies It took him minutes, took her nowhere Heaven knows, she'd have taken anything, but All night She wants the young American Young American, young American She wants the young American All right She wants the young American Scanning life through the picture window She finds the slinky vagabond He coughs as he passes her Ford Mustang, but Heaven forbid, she'll take anything But the freak, and his type, all for nothing He misses a step and cuts his hand, but Showing nothing, he swoops like a song She cries "Where have all Papa's heroes gone?" All night She wants the young American Young American, young American She wants the young American All right She wants the young American All the way from Washington Her bread-winner begs off the bathroom floor We live for just these twenty years Do we have to die for the fifty more? All night He wants the young American Young American, young American He wants the young American All right He wants the young American Do you remember, your President Nixon? Do you remember, the bills you have to pay? Or even yesterday? All night You want the young American Young American, young American You want the young American All right You want the young American You ain't a pimp and you ain't a hustler A pimp's got a Cadi and a lady got a Chrysler Black's got respect, and white's got his soul train Mama's got cramps, and look at your hands ache (I heard the news today, oh boy) I got a suite and you got defeat Ain't there a man who can say no more? And, ain't there a woman I can Sock on the jaw? And, ain't there a child I can hold without judging? Ain't there a pen that will write before they die? Ain't you proud that you've still got faces? Ain't there one damn song that can make me Break down and cry? All night I want the young American Young American, young American I want the young American All right I want the young American Young American Young American, young American I want the young American All night You and I I want you I Young American, young American I want the young American All right I want the young American Young American, young American I want the young American All night

+Branden Keith I totally agree and I thought Bowies was a little jumbled Hozier brings so much structure and feeling to the song
@ysalimirii7 жыл бұрын
this is a fine cover but Bowie's original just resonates and transcends because of the Plastic Soul touch Bowie coined and put on it. out of context it may sound jumbled but the entire Young Americans album is pure gold and is meant to be listened to front front to back.

@sf58238 жыл бұрын
+floppyd0g Why is everyone hating on Gaga? Come on man she did a fantastic tribute to him. It was creative and funny and over the top. Bowie was always about costumes and stage performance ok so she might not be able to sing like Bowie, noone can sing like Bowie ( even Bowie impersonators) he was so unique but he had a fantastic sense of humour, a fantastic sense of drama and he was very different and always rebelling against the norm...I think he would have liked it and found humour in it.

@@sf5823 - Gaga's Bowie "tribute" was a horrible OTT mess. It was like she was trying to ruin as many Bowie songs as she could in under 5 minutes. If you want to see a fine tribute from a singer's singer then check out Christina Aguilera doing It's A Man's Man's World as part of the James Brown tribute about 8 years ago. It's a mic drop - not people wishing her mic would drop out.
