One of the most under appreciated bands of all time. The talent is over the top. On the recording of this song in 1976, the dueling guitars is some of the best you'll ever hear this side of Lynard Skynard doing Freebird. These guys are some serious musicians.
@edd78122 жыл бұрын
I saw them way back when '76 or '77. at what they called the "Mountain Aire" concerts up in the Califorina foothills by Angels Camp with Linda Ronstadt, Jackson Browne? and a couple other great acts that I don't remember.. but what I do remember is the Orleans guys would get up and switch instruments in between songs, they could all play just about any instrument! Actually, not only did he have the distinctive upper range vocal ability and lead singing role, but the guy was also a very good guitar player and instrumentalist. He and Hall made for a great duet of harmonic matching guitar leads in the tune. Hoppen was a very significant part of the Orleans sound all the way around. And, when I heard recently that he had taken his own life years ago, I was taken aback and distraught. Hurts when a major talent and musical force self-destructs.....suggests there was something going on. Hall pretty much admits as much in later day commentary. Sad

From a bygone era when bands with harmonized guitar solos were all the rage. Orleans, Little River Band & Eagles were the top of the heap in my book, because along with some interesting guitar arrangements, each of these bands also had amazing vocals, composed memorable tunes, and could deliver a live performance equal to or better than the studio version. This is a great example.

Best melody & harmony lead guitar arrangement ever written. I’ll add that this song is the perfect example of music from the 70s: none of it sounded the same because everything was a "do your own thing" attitude. Therefore, nearly all the music was original sounding and excellent. I think that decade will go down as the best time for rock music, in American history.
