Making a Christmas Ornament, Quick Tutorial

Learn to make a kimekomi (aka tucked fabric) Christmas ornament. This ornament usually takes me a few hours to make, but I've sped it up and trimmed it down to less than 10 minutes. I love your ornaments. You inspired me to make all my ornaments for this year’s Christmas ❤ I’ve already purchased all the materials and I’m super excited to start. Quick question… You’re obviously a Pro making them,and you use the fabric in one piece, but I wonder if it’ll be easier for me (a beginner) to precut my fabrics, or you think I’ll be wasting more material doing it like that? As a beginner you may find it easier to cut your fabric first before applying it to the ball. In my beginner's tutorial video I explain how you make a fabric cutting pattern/template for this purpose. Just remember, it's better to cut your fabric pieces too big at first and you can trim them down as you go. Once you are more comfortable with the process then you can skip that step if you like. What do you use to press the fabricin to the foam ball I have a ezact knife but not the tool you use thanks this is interesting 😉

I use an upholstery needle to tuck the fabric into the grooves.

Great job! I use hot glue with a very small tip on the gun for the accents. Works decent. Kumihumo I think it's called - the tucking. and corsage pins are good for the crown.

Thanks for your comment! 😊 Hot glue would work too. Kumihimo (組み紐) is the Japanese art of braiding cords. The literal translation is "gathered threads". Kimekomi (木目込み) is the tucking technique I use. The translation is "to tuck into a groove". The words are similar sounding and it can be confusing.

What glue do you use to mix glitter into to paint on the foam balls?
