Denardo doesn't sound 'great,' Malcolm - but he's improved over "The Empty Foxhole" ... the only record that I find satisfactory from him is "Crisis," but that might just be because the music is so good and 3/4 of the classic quartet is on it. The other 1968 albums with Elvin Jones are far superior. Freddie Hubbard famously commented in a Blindfold Test that Denardo the drummer sounded "like a little kid fooling around." Nepotism was at work, and nemesis was the result.

Ornette composed only one piece of music in his entire carreer, and repeated it over and over...

that only proves 2 things 1) you don't know Ornette 2) you don't know how to listen to Ornette lots of people unused to listen to bebop say the same about Bird's tunes and improvisations (by the way Bird actually basically worked on two chord sequences in an handful of keys - rhythm changes in Bb and blues in F, Eb, C and maybe Bb - once in Ab and some standard in G and Db . does this mean that Bird's tune were all the same?)
