A well-built pocket gun almost 100 yrs old. Tons of sentimental value for me. My grandfather brought one of these back from Europe while in the Navy in the 50's. He traded a guy for a carton of cigarettes. It got handed down and I disassembled and cleaned it. Nice little shooter that will never leave my family. I would like to find an additional mag, though. Perfect nightstand gun because it can be operated blind. I don't know anyone who wants to get hit with a .32auto. I've never seen one polished/plated. I think that's an afterthought. I would assume that's why your pin is walking up while shooting.

Forty-odd years ago, a first-rate gunsmith named J. B. Wood wrote an excellent book titled "Troubleshooting Your Handgun". It has a very good account of the design flaws (weak firing pin, delicate disconnector, poor grip retention, etc.) You can probably get it cheap on Amazon or Ebay or ABEbooks, and learn a lot about many other guns too.

These were produced in the Weimar Republic between the world wars. Since Germany was being punished for WWI they essentially got shut down and were forced to dump large quantities of their existing stock on the import market. Apparently about 48,000 were sold to the United States for $0.66 a gun in the early 1920s. Even with inflation that's less than $13 a gun in today's money. There was a second smaller batch (of unknown quantity) that were also sold to America for $0.75 a gun. Most of what you find over in the Americas are from these two groups. The pistol was very popular in Germany though despite only being produced for about 5 years. Hitler apparently gave one to Eva Braun.

My middle daughter loves to shoot, and wanted a purse gun for CCW. Only problem...she cant deal with heavy recoil(bad flinch). After trying maybe 30 different guns from my safe, she really loved a full size 38 spec.(too big for her CCW), and a 32.acp(just right size). I gave her an S&W mod. 15 in 4 inch for the range and home defense, and a slick lil Seecamp in 32.acp. The 32. was a big hit, and sumpin she practices with alot, which you really gotta do with your carrygun. Always a slick vid, brother Sootch, best to you n yours, MIKE.
@mattmarzula8 жыл бұрын
Michael McGee After "purse gun" all I heard were excuses. Ask yourself what is the first thing someone is going to take from your daughter? Her purse. Now, they have her gun along with her bank and credit cards. Shouldn't be too long before they come to get the PIN's and shoot her with her own gun. Take self defense more seriously and shoot that flinch away.

I have a blued one in .32 acp. I bouggt mine many years ago for less than $80 from what I remember. What I find interesting is that most of the old defensive pistols are in weaker cartridges than what we would consider adequate, such as .32acp, .32 S&W, .38 S&W, maybe.380. And, they didn't have "good" bullets, but fmj and round nose lead. I wonder sometimes if we're not over powering them.

Sootch, I hope you can answer this question. In your presentation here you stated the .32 barrel can be removed and replaced with a .380 barrel and the orig. .32 magazine can be used for the .380 round. Is that right? My real question here is can the same be done with the .25 to bump it up to a .32 also using the orig. .25 magazine? Hope to hear from you on this.

Nice pistol. Somehow I have two, an Ortgies and a Deutche Werke. I suggest the nickel finish is not original. The left side slide address shows a bit of 'dishing out' from the polishing and the proof mark on the right side of the receiver shows even worse. As you said, whoever did the polish and refinish work was quite good.

There was a test done in France in the 1970s using live goats as the "victims". The .32 ACP actually outperformed the .380 when using the FMJ ammunition of the time. Penetration was better I guess. I think they killed something like 1000 goats. PETA would have a fit nowadays. It's amazing that so many European police forces used .32s up until the 1980s. I sometimes carry a Savage M1907even now just for "fun" when knocking around in the desert. I may have to get an Ortgies after this, since my all time favorite gun maker is Ludwig Loewe/DWM.

Dillinger was carrying a Colt M1908 Pocket Hammerless in 380 APC. It was his preferred firearm when he traveled in public as it obviously fit in his pocket and was easily drawn when needed. Bonnie Parker busted Clyde out of jail by hiding a similar colt taped under her dress between her legs.
