Orthodox Book Collection: Septuagint's, Prayer Books, Anthologion, Newrome Press and GREEK Diglots!

Coming to you...not live but somewhat pre-recorded and heavily edited. Here is my Orthodox book collection I've garnered over about a year and a half since studying Orthodox Christianity and being an inquirer looking into Orthodoxy. Here is all the books I have acquired and that I recommend you acquire of the writings I have read and highly encourage you get as you convert to Orthodoxy. I will be doing further reviews and in much greater detail that this video doesn't touch upon as well. thanks for stopping by! I would assume off a hunch that Andrew would've been using an Hebrew/ Aramaic Torah/Tanakh or a Greek Septuagint considering the New Testament hadn't come in to fruition or was in the process of being written. in John 19:20 we know that the languages on the cross of Christ were Hebrew, Latin and Greek so something around the lines of a Hebrew Tanakh, a Greek Septuagint or a Latin Vulgate is most likely.

@@paladinhansen137 I was really being a bit ironic since Jesus said to Andrew, Come, follow me, rather than giving him books. I doubt whether Andrew had books, nor was there yet a 'Bible' as one book as we know it. AAlthough the Septuagint was the more or less official version of the Jewish scriptures at the time, I suspect Andrew would ore likely have been familiar with the Peshitta. And of course the stature of the Ketuvim was still undecided. I suspect that when St. Paul said ' all writings are inspired', he was talking about the Ketuvim. But, do enjoy your videos. (I've only bought two boos today, s version of the Agpeya and the Anthologion.

@@dalecaldwell Yes It is nice to hear! Life is not all in the books. Life is walking with Christ. I was just also taking in the whole picture where Torah references are made that not one yod(Hebrew letter) or tittle(Dagesh crown marks) will be removed from the Law until all is fulfilled. Which is the Torah. And then I also think of Philip who also helps the Ethiopian eunuch in the book of Mark on a passage in the Tanakh with Isaiah using Old Testament Scripture, because the New Testament hadn't been written as of yet, so the Eunuch needed apostolic guidance with interpreting Scripture just like the apostles got it from the incarnate Logos and Lord Himself.☦

Dear Paladin...Possibly someone has already mentioned this in the comments somewhere, but NIKA means victor as in Jesus Christ the Victor. I also have some of those books, but not all. At a certain point I had to tell myself to stop buying books. The postage and handling was adding up to almost the cost of the actual books (I am in Canada, so we have higher postage rates and a low dollar) and I no longer have anywhere to put any extra books as all the book shelves are full as are all the table accept where I eat. BTW. There is easily available on Amazon The New Testament in the Original Greek Byzantine Textform,, edited by Maurice A. Robinsin and William g. Pierpont, in eithr a Kindle edition or a Paperback.

One thing that I find lacking with the so-called Anthologion are the canons for matins. It is as if the canons do not exist which is now the common Greek attitude. For us traditional Orthodox Christians, the canons are the very heart of Matins. Matins without the canons is like a day without sunshine. They should be there!

I agree with your sentiment, but I do understand the reasoning of the publishers for excluding them (other than the typical parish. exclusion), which is that they would have massively added to the size of the Anthologion. They wanted it to be a manageable size, and prioritized a wide array of liturgical material, rather than a deeper dive into the matins material. I think they should publish a companion volume with the canons of the Octoechos, Festal Menaion and Lenten Triodion.

Yes, I plan on doing a full review from St. Ignatius Orthodox Press and the EOB NT. It is quite immaculate and one of my favorite translations. Yet unfortunately I have already packed that into a box for packaging because I'm moving over 3,000 KM. If the Lord wills I will have that review available in May :) God bless

When You started out as a Orthodox, what did You start out with? Example Purchasing Icon’s of Jesus and Mary and a few Prayer Book’s, before Catechumen’s. I started with Icon’s, Prayer Book’s then started reading about the Orthodox Faith. What was it for You?

I had a couple of old icons to start with and then reading my Bible more and more often about 2/12 or three years ago. Actually it was my KJV on Bishops presbyters and Deacons that jumped me to learn about High Church Protestantism, Roman Catholicism and Eastern Orthodoxy. Of course Orthodoxy I found to be the True Church in terms of doctrine and dogma and order. . Started looking at the OSB Orthodox Study Bible from Thomas Nelson by St. Athanasius Press and then I got hooked after reading all the footnotes in the OSB and started watching many Orthodox channels and looked at the superior worship and architecture and how to pray. I had visited an Orthodox Cathedral in the sixth grade as a young tyke and had the fondest memories and even have a small olive wood cross from Bethlehem that I acquired at their store and use it in my Icon Corner even unto today well over a decade now. I plan on doing a video on my Icons and my Icon corner and where to get Icons like from Legacy icons or a local Church might have great Icons at their small stores. Icons are like windows into heaven. By the way my favorite translations are the KJV the LSB the DR and the EOB and the ones I recommend.

John 19:20 encourages all of of us to learn Hebrew, Latin and Greek and the Holy Spirit gives us ability to speak and translate in native tongues like English. Just got done on a bit of editing for another video and couple more drafts. Good to see your comment. I have not acquired from HCM and I do plan on it once i move to Appalachia. I have some older Icons from Poland of the Theotokos and the baby Jesus(Iusous) in Greek as well as a mysterious Icon that i need to decipher on too. In Orthodoxy every day is comprehension of the Logos and mystery of the Mysterion(Sacraments) of the Church and it is never dull.

16:10 speaking of that, does anyone have any books to help with learning greek? I haven’t looked past this time stamp, but I do see the apostolic fathers 3rd edition in the pile, which is half greek half English translation. I also believe the red paper book on the top was also in greek, if I think that’s the book I am thinking of. I seen the red one on another channel saying he got the book in greek and it was about greek manuscripts that looks like that one. I don’t know. Sorry for rambling, but any recommendations from anyone who reads this would be nice. The video was “Books orthodox Christians need” IIRC. The saved video says it got taken down. Edit: 25:52 may be the book I thought of when mentioning the red pages, but I can’t remember if it was a different book or not.

Nice stack of Orthodox Christian books you have there. These days, I limit my reading to the scriptures and the Church Fathers, and try to pray more. However, as a relatively young and intelligent catechumen, its good to get the knowledge into you. I still read conservative Anglican and Lutheran books from time to time. However, if I read more than Scripture and the Fathers, the Christian books I read are Orthodox. Yes, I agree that Orthodox Review is a wonderful channel, as well. So is Dale, O. S. C. However, videos from an intelligent catechumen like yourself can benefit others, so keep up the good work.

There is almost know Reverence In The Holy Sacrifice Of The Mass. 70% Of Roman Catholic’s believe in the True Presence. Almost None go to Confession. When My Dad Died last Year at 78, He was Cremated and My 77 Year Old Mother wishes, Me to be Cremated and has lost Her Faith. I am watching Your entire Video Tonight. I want to go Orthodox so Bas. @@bryanlahaise595 I'm a catechumen☦ in the Greek Orthodox Church in North America but under the Patriarchate of Constantinople. My nanas were both Roman Catholic and Gpas were Protestant background but of various forms like Baptist, Calvary non-denomination etc.. I got tired of Protestantism 33,000 denominations etc etc. and the modernization or merely the liberalization of the Western Church including Norvus Ordo in the RC. I really liked the RC but it needs to return to its roots before the schism and be united. I think the problem is papal edicts over ecumenical councils as the biggest issue and Norvus Ordo has proven that. When I heard of Byzantium and researched the Eastern Orthodox and the 4 other patriarchates I felt like the Norse/Rus Varangians that were sent by St. Vladimir of Kiev and many went to the Jews, Muslims and RC and viewed all of their forms of worship. They were impressed with Roman Catholicism to a degree compared to Islam and Judaism but when they went to Constantinople and entered in to the Hagia Sophia they didnt know whether they were in heaven or on earth when seeing the worship. I was baptized protestant but in the Trinity of course.. I love the Liturgy while protestant churches felt like a concert and have differing creeds. Meanwhile Orthodoxy hasn't changed. ☦

Where is your missing ayat? Quran has no miracles. Bible has Pi, Somerfield's Constant, golden ratio, Pythagorean theorem, natural logarithm, geometry, arithmetic and much more. A man can calculate the stars using Greek and calculate amino acids using Hebrew and as well the Logos for the source of all logic which is Christ Jesus.

How could an illiterate man who lived 1400 years ago know that if he were as you say, a false prophet? Whoever wrote the Quran understood Egyptian heiroglyphics. And there's much more. The Quran has miraculous ring composition, impossible for man to make. This proves the supernatural origin of the Glorious Holy Quran. Yes I had my Baptism(Mikvah) nearly 6 years ago and have been working out my own salvation with fear and trembling studying the Church and it lead me to Orthodox. my baptism was in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit(Ghost) of course. and the reason I like the KJV as #1 isnt my own opinion. Its a beautifully poetic translation and still over 50% of English speakers use a KJV Bible. Which is impressive with all the wealth us English speakers have with a plethora on translations. The LSB like a few other big translations have the numbers game correct on the 37 antique numbers in the four gospels and i'll explain in an video upcoming.
