Thanks for your thoughts. During the recent great inconvenience, a copy of this Anthologion would have been a blessing. A friend who is a Coptic Christian gave me a copy of their prayer book, the Agpeya. It was illuminating. Between that and more than one version of the Book of Common Prayer, I have been reading and praying the psalms more so than ever. The attempted suppression of religious life is bearing fruit of unexpected kinds. Love the tiger stripe camouflage pants. The shirt is so ugly it is beautiful! God bless you.

Call me petty, but that "holy strong" was the only thing that kept me from buying the Anthologion. I am excited that I can now finally join the club! Thank you for the review Rafael, I was waiting for this one eagerly.

You were more charitable in your review than mine. I did my first book review on the Third Edition and I felt like I was rambling. Did you use the Anthologion 3rd Edition for kneeling vespers on Pentecost(JUUdge and instead of Judge) I loved that the translation was like an 80% match to what the priest was saying but now we need to get the clergy on board with this book so we are all kinda praying the same thing. The potential of this book is unmatched. The content is perfect and there’s nothing more that could be added to it realistically speaking outside a few different things. I have recommended the 2nd edition to so many people but now I can proudly recommend everyone the 3rd edition. In love with this book and your review!

Glory to God, and thank you so much for your kind words! The english language thing is going to continue to be an issue for years to come, unfortunately. I'm just grateful that we have such amazing resources, whereas fifty years ago you would be hard pressed to find much of anything in english.

Just ordered one. I also ordered the psalter since I have the other three hard bound books. The quality of the print, paper, and binding is unbelievably great on all of these books. Absolutely stunning. I hope you are doing well Raphael. You are a good egg.

Great review! You make these reviews so engaging and funny. Right now I'm getting my introduction to the Horologian by praying with the Publican's Prayer Book hours, if that goes well and I think I can cram even more prayer in, I will be ordering one. The thought of ordering this book is a little scary, because with how beautiful it is, I know I'll have to pray from it every day, whether or not my responsibilities actually afford time for it ;)

You don't have to use the whole thing all the time.It's just nice to have the resources at your disposal and plus it's arranged for a single reader , so you don't have to make any augmentations the way you would with that melekite book.

Let's keep in mind that this is the work of one editor, and that there is not a large publishing house behind it. Although I am extremely happy that all the edits are finally up to snuff, so to speak, let us glorify god that we have such a resource at all!

I have no clue how you guys have less verses on ikos 6. Because those verses go in groups of 2(the second one uses the first ones words and theme to add more weight to the ikos overall) until the last one and I really hope yours hasnt cut out the second verse to every ''group'' of 2 cause they are very beautiful! God bless you and your work, hope you can get a nice translation to fit into that already full book.

Ok, so I've been a little puzzled lately, I want to get the Anthologian, but I'm hearing good things about the Publican prayer book. The issue I only really have for the Publican Prayer book is it's a Roman Catholic Prayer book, I understand it only mentions the Pope once, but so did the Uniates during their services tricking Greeks in (Maybe butchering info from St. Alexis Toth's life.) Does the Anthologian Third edition compete or out weigh the Publican Prayer Book?
@OrthodoxReview6 ай бұрын
Outweighs it by a merry mile. Also, support Orthodox publishers!

I love the Anthologion. I have the 2nd edition. I just wish it had Divine Liturgy in there.
@OrthodoxReview5 ай бұрын
It has the typica service as you know, which is a replacement for the divine liturgy in the absence of a priest, which is what the book is designed for.

@sargael6 ай бұрын
The advantage of the Old Rite Horologion are the Troparia and Kondakia for pretty much the whole of the Church year - except for the newer saints, of course. I always thought that the Saint Ignatius people could have used that as a base for an updated version that they could include in their Anthologion.
@OrthodoxReview5 ай бұрын
That has been included in the third edition

Hi! Does the Psalter text have the extra devotional material after each Kathisma (like in the Hardcover Psalter)?
@OrthodoxReview6 ай бұрын
Nope, just the psalms. In this context, it makes sense because the psalms are read during vespers and matins, whereas the individual psalter is a devotional book.

@@OrthodoxReview Follow on. do you know if they changed the translation of the Our Father to something more traditional? The one they had in there was odd to me, and didn't follow any of the normal English translations. "may Thy name be hallowed" rather than "hallowed be Thy name". I get wanting to do your own, but... Thanks in advance for the help!

Greek-ish. The new traditional English version will fit more with the Slavic/Antiochian usage.
