Perfect timing, I just got my first Oil Lampada (new to Orthodoxy)
@NepticFathers2 жыл бұрын
I would recommend using a wire to hold the wick instead of a floating cork, if you've seen those. I've heard about the cork holders flipping over. If you fill your lampada properly, you should have a long lasting light. If you have any Orthodox inquirer questions, fire away, and welcome to Orthodoxy!

Just recently switched to floating cork with beeswax wicks. Works well with a votive candle holder and much cheaper and easier to maintain over the beeswax candles. I use a “smokeless” incense burner from legacy icons and Valaam blend is definitely a favorite but it melts into a liquid which can get a little messy. The legacy icons Northern Africa frankincense is wonderful though too

How long can you get the flame to last on the floating cork before it self extinguishes?
@znovosad555 Жыл бұрын
@@NepticFathers haven’t had it self extinguish yet. The other night I probably had it going 1ish hour.

@@NepticFathers I haven't tried but I would say that 16 hours at least, probably even a day, but I am refilling it while using it. I am using a Vigil Lamp I bought from Nioras, so it doesn't have that much space in it (maybe about 2 votive candles space).

I work for a smoke shop and we sell hookah coals. Dont get the coconut coals. And most people can probably break hookah coals in half for smaller burners while doubling the supply.

I tend to double the incense lol. ...like there is still 3/4ths burn time left... might as well put on some more incense.. meanwhile visibility in my house- one meter.

Do you have any tips on increasing the flame size/brightness? My vigil lamps are extremely dim :/
@NepticFathers2 жыл бұрын
Are you using olive oil and a cotton wick? I make sure to have a wide glass jar because the olive oil can't wick up very high. Then I have the oil up to the top of the metal wick holder. Then the brightness will be determined by the lenght of the wick above the oil.

@@NepticFathers Thank you for the quick reply, brother! Yes, and I actually figured out what the problem was after I commented. I needed to remove a couple of strands from my cotton wick because it was getting choked out within the wick holder after becoming swollen and saturated with oil.

@@TheTupari Your welcome! were you using cotton twine or yarn? I use cotton yarn; although in the video I think I said twine. Cotton yarn is dirt cheap and works great for a wick. I can prep the lampada and light it, and it will burn for 24 hours in something like a wide mouth canning jar before needing to be trimmed again.

I have an incense burner like yours, but it's brass, sort of like the ones Roman Catholics use. I know you said the cup got hot. I haven't used mine yet because I am afraid that it's going to get too hot and burn the table. Are they usually safe with the heat? Thank you.
@NepticFathers2 ай бұрын
I don't use brass, but you could always give it a try but put a Pyrex or oven safe dish underneath it when you give it a try

Thanks for sharing. We use vegetable oil since we burn our vigil lamp 24/7 and it can get pricey opting for olive oil. What is your favorite incense at the moment?
@NepticFathers2 жыл бұрын
I've tried to use vegetable oil in the past, but it goes rancid very quickly and leave a sticky residue everywhere and doesn't burn as clean, which also leave a sticky residue on other things nearby. It's very similar to the grease that settles in a kitchen on the top of refrigerators and other surfaces. I would recommend using a cheaper olive oil if you can. I buy mine at Sam's Club since it is cheaper at large bulk stores. My favorite incenses are Evergreen and Old Church by orthodoxincense.com/
@NepticFathers2 жыл бұрын
The incense from orthodoxincense.com/ tends to be very high quality from my experience. I believe they use essential oils and are more fragrant than using resin incense.

This defeats the purpose, you are supposed to get the highest quality stuff you can when it comes to Christ and his church, far be it from me of all people to judge anyone, but it is disrespectful to go cheapo on Christ and his Saints, unless you are absolutely destitute. (Also olive oil is the only kind used in the church)
