Thank you so much for these recordings, they are such a blessing to me as a catechumen. Digging deeper into church history and theology brought to Holy Orthodoxy, but encountering the lives and teachings of the saints throughout the generations has made it even clearer that this is the true faith and continuity of the Church Christ established. God bless you.

This got me thinking of what I am doing in life. Right now got a job with the Salvation Army, which I love doing. But, at the same time, I get the greatest joy when working on games. For I seek to tell stories in them that point people to the faith with them. Trying to share the truth Faith with people in a way they can understand. I pray God can give me the chance to do that full time if He wills it.

I thank God for all He does for us. He made us. He knows where we will excel. Give your life fully to Him and He will guide you. Sometimes this comes from insight about yourself from others. Many times God leads us without our awareness that it is He who orders our steps. It is often seen after the fact. Trust Him. Be patient. He is always good whether we perceive it or not. He is longsuffering. Pray to Him. Then pray to Him again. He wants the best for us. This is not a passive process. We have to participate in His grace.

This hits so close home. I am a 21 year old guy, living with my mum, still jobless. If I were to name my biggest strengths, it would have to be my unique perspective, intelligence and mind. As a child I used to be artistic, I loved to draw. Now, I have no clue what I want to do with my life, expect for serving God, but probably not as a monk. I started an internship to learn trade after school, but felt extremely repulsed after just a few weeks of constantly sitting at a desk, doing mindless tasks in an office - it felt like my soul was withering away, and I couldn't bear it. Labor that is too physically demanding is also not for me, since I have been suffering from postural imbalances and problems with my spine recently, which necessitate that I should not carry too much weight (but that also drew my attention to physical therapy and the importance of anatomy). When it comes to interest, I am exceptionally drawn to the topic of philosophy and theology lately, but also find health (physiology, anatomy) and biology interesting. Should I pursue work of an intellectual in philosophy/theology, as a nutritionist or a physical therapist (helping others avoid the mistakes I did), as a biologist, do something labourious that is still light (that involves a lot of walking/travelling), learn some form of craftsmanship to rekindle my love for art, work with plants (agriculture), humans (counselling, helping, teaching), animals, alone..? I am so clueless in this whole regard as to what I should do with my life honestly, and I hope I find something I love to do and where I shine and can serve God with all my heart. I don't care about material wealth and income exceedingly much, am content with living a simple life, just want something that fits me, that I like to do, with which I can give value to others, and that allows me to pay my bills and cover my own expenses entirely so as to not need to rely on my mum and the government. I know that I have a lot of potential, just haven't found the right thing yet. Please pray for me to find the right path 🙏

Cast thy burden upon the Lord. Seek humility and pray. Find a local Orthodox Church and attend Divine Liturgy. May God help you. In Christ, K
Perhaps I'm just making it worse by saying this, but when I was 21, I also thought that my intelligence was my great strength. It took me another 10 years to discover that it is actually physical work that solved all my personal problems. Constantly working with my head, while my body was inactive, left me mentally overloaded and exhausted all the time, and physically weak and sick. I work in gardening/landscaping now. I may well commit to farming in a few more years. I feel better than ever, I'm never sick anymore, I feel perfectly fine even while consistently getting too little sleep. My body is becoming strong and my mind is free to consider the matters that concern God.

I have worked as a certified nursing assistant for half my life. While rewarding, I also find that the physical labor involved is getting harder and wears me out more. (I'm 43.) Realistically, I may have to find a whole new field of work before I am much older. It makes me very anxious, especially in the times we find ourselves in, where living expenses can be so high, and food is rising in cost. Pray for me, St. Paisios, and for the whole world. +

Pray you found a work environment that doesn't burn out workers. I know there are many medical centers and other organizational leaders, who wisely build a culture that encourages rest and restoration during workdays.

This was helpful. I struggles with my second to last job, not because I didn't enjoy doing it, but because the product my company stocked was garbage: soda. They even had a number of drinks they considered "new age drinks", and that bothered me a bit. I finally gave it up recently and moved to another, safer area, and got a factory job. That was torturous, and I ended up quitting (admittedly in a regrettable way) and am still in limbo deciding what to do next. I thought I would enjoy things here with a better paying factory job, but I quickly found out that the utterly monotonous work surrounded by angry people wasn't worth it. I've always worked, but now for over a month I haven't, and I feel the wasting away St. Paisios mentions. I am restless, but I try to at least busy myself with spiritual things, but that is not enough. I also gave away some personal freedom in moving in with family, and that has been difficult too; love my grandparents, and they love me, but they really don't love each other. I recently rediscovered my talent for writing, which may at least present a path where I could enjoy my work fully. I do lack confidence and am a bit rusty at it, but maybe in time I could write articles or do something for the church. Please pray for me a good resolution and a job that I feel alive doing. I need to do something soon, or at least get moving in the right direction.

One must work, but work here doesn't necessarily mean 'a job'. A monk works, labor is work, research is work, constant prayer is work, and yes, a job too is work. It is easier to work for someone else if one does not know what one's calling is. If one knows one's calling, work is not work, but it may or may not pay. However, one will work tirelessly in one's calling without fatigue.

This is inspiring. I currently am a security guard. It’s a job i picked because it takes 0 effort all i do is look at cameras and open gates for trucks to come in. I took it because I gave up on finding something that i would be good at. I still don’t know my natural affinities, but now i’m inspired to go look for something even if it’s difficult

I went to school to study chemistry. I ended up working and producing things i did do not think god would have approved. I worked on nicotine and marijuana products some of which are in the news as a major health concern for kids. I started out my career as a young man working on materials which go into healthcare products which prevent heart attacks. I am hoping to teach students after finishing a teaching certification.

What is the word mentioned Philothemo ? Or something along those lines ?
@OrthodoxWisdom2 жыл бұрын
Philotimo. Basically means abundant desire to go above and beyond in love.
@ffii7773 Жыл бұрын
@@OrthodoxWisdom Philotimo, literally "love of honor". In pre-Christian times, it meant something like having an unsatiable appetite for heroic deeds, as measured by ethnic norms and traditions. It was therefore a kind of pride. St. Paisios means something like being greedy for opportunities to perfect oneself, and loving to do good deeds, with Christ (not Herkules or Perseus) as our example.
