Rod/reel combo with fishing kit as an emergency setup kzbin.infoUgkxntWMOZsO1Zfv-pdn_XuffEtNkTYAYu4Z recommend but started to use this every day. The rod is thick and seems durable. I keep it neatly tucked into a regular backpack all the time with my fishing gear, and can grab it anytime, put it on my back and go anywhere. I just read in another review that the rod length below the reel is adjustable as well, so I will try that too for even more portability. Probably the best setup I've ever owned. I lost the cap for the eyelets, but no big deal since I still have the black cloth sheath that came for the pole and I use that. Very portable and high quality.

Thanks Pete for sharing your knowledge. It will help anglers understand some causes of the tailing loop and become more efficient casters.

Such an awesome instructor, thank you Pete. I’ve been noticing that lately I’ve been getting those annoying knots. This is a great refresher , I guess tailing loops are like the yips in golf , They can even creep up on the experienced casters

Thanks for the great video. The only thing I would like to see is the issue of an obstacle of say a rising bank, some vegetation or a hedge or wall behind the caster thus forcing the caster to have a much higher back cast. All casting instruction videos conveniently (Rio etc) leave this problem out either demonstrating whist stood in the middle of a river or in a flat field. Cheers DW

This was my frustration today. I had to rebuild my leader 4 times. The more knots and cuts I made, the more frustration I had. Which caused even more. Had to just go home. I was doing the first and third. Trying to overpower a short stroke to fire the line out. Guess I can't do that lol.

Too much wrist on the forward cast causing tailing loop. What be be the fix for that type of casting error.
@HondoTrailside6 жыл бұрын
If you have too much wrist, get a rod/cuff combination where you can put the rod butt into your cuff. That will get your the feel of not breaking the wrist. There is a casting aid that does the same thing, but you probably already own a cuff.

Nice concept, but the camera is too close, and so we don't actually see any of the loops as they're being discussed.

Pretty sure this is how I am messing up my casts while fly fishing
@gmstuart17 жыл бұрын
Both 1 and 2 were misapplication of power. Number 1 was more common where rotation happened early in the stroke aiding the over power. One of the most common actions that cause these tailing loops wasn't mentioned and that's creep....when your rod hand unknowingly travels forward before you make the forward cast.....effectively narrowing the casting arc. You could also get a tailing loop by breaking the 180 degree rule.....the back cast and forward cast need to stay at 180 degrees. So, if you have a headwind where you want a high back cast you then have a low forward cast......opposite for a tail wind.

Is the cameraman a fly fisherman? He's trying to show us what happens at the back of the backcast, but the camera keeps cropping out the line. Its like the cameraman has no idea what we are trying to see!
@eugeneschreiner28594 жыл бұрын
Tailing loops are not caused by overpowering the rod. They are caused by the rod tip dipping during the cast. Keep your thumb moving in a slight arc. If you do that you can put as much power into the cast as you want.
