Different strokes for different folks people. It is just showing a method of getting your fly down as deep as possible. And honestly since I really started flyfishing, I avoid spinning or baitcasting rods like the plague and I have curados and 200 dollar bass rods that just collect dust in my room. I want to catch all my fish from now until I die on the fly👊

For certain peoples who says "sacrilege", they will search draws of certain predator, pike and salmon victorian flies. They integrate some exotic plumes of course but more surprisingly, propeller, spoons and jig heads! Yes Jig men the jig head is a invention of the fly fishermen considerable before the modern using with spinning rods what are more recent (20th century). (my source is a catalogue of pike and predator flies of the 19 th century with some incredible things like pike flies integrate lead head and complete peacock eye on the back). In Slovenia some of most skilled fishermen are able to use these huge jig head to take huge spooky marmoratas and huchens with flies ressemble to drowning mouses made of rabbit strips. Fly fishing is not only dry fly fishing, It is more complex. The first flies of history where streamers because they were use by traditional people to take predator fishes (peacock bass in Amazonia for exemple) or to take makereel in seas (phoenicians). For some people who says it is not fly fishing, see historical sources of their fishing style and you will be surprised. Friendly, all the best

First twenty five years fishing rocky mountains before 'fly water regs' took over much of the rivers around here, I fished nitecrawlers with my Berkley fiberglass spinning rod and Mitchell 300, mono and split shot. Then fished for 30 years almost exclusively with fly tackle. At 66 I fish meat flies with spinning rod, my shoulder can't take the abuse of chucking meat flies on a fly rod all day.

Enjoyed the humour in the narration and the locations were gorgeous. I can’t really see the point in using fly rods for this type of fishing though. Maybe for those who don’t own a spin rod ?

The fly rod is nothing more than a tool you use to get your fly to the fish , I don't get fixated on fly rod vs spin , use what works

I’ve been tying them with bunny strip and 4 shank sections so it is like 7 inches long and half ounce jig head in the deepest pools 20 to 30 ft for big ass bull trout they work so good Especially when you tip it with shrimp or Douse it in salmon oil.
@liamlowes16666 жыл бұрын
I recommend spin for 1/2 3/4oz
@s.pepper18336 жыл бұрын
Might as well just use a shrimp or worm and baitfish at that point. Baitfishing with a fly, not fly fishing.

philosophically i see flyfishing as a tool like any other. i love jighead flies for panfish because i can cast a 1/16-1/100 ounce jighead farther and more accurately with my 4 weight fly rod than i could ever hope to with an ultralight spinning rod, and it really shines with pan-fish. but after about 1/8 ounce isn't it easier to just use a spinning rod? i mean, i'm not opposed to trying it, but it just sounds like you're one bad cast from either shattering an expensive fly rod or smacking yourself in the back of the head with 1/4 ounce of lead that's flying pretty fast. more power to you if you are good with this but i'm content with having a spinning rod in the boat.

1/32oz and up can be casted accurately on spin gear using light lines or drifted under a float (indicator for you purists) Even size 18 beaded nymphs under Thill Mini Mini Shy Bite can be deadly
@SkidinDingo4 жыл бұрын
@@trautist0457 a spinning rod can absolutely be used to deliver bead head flies, especially with a float, but its a lot easier to put it down accurately 40 feet away with a fly rod than a spin rod imo
@trautist04574 жыл бұрын
Skidin Dingo, Been fishing light 1/32oz crappie type jigs for trout on spinning gear for over 40yrs. Fly fishers gravitated to light micro jigs a few yrs back and now they knock spinning gear making all sorts of excuses why a fly rod is more accurate etc. Lols. An ultralight spin rod in 6'9 - 7ft is very accurate in the right hands. Just give me a thumbs up when I pull that big brown from the run you just fished. Ha!
@SkidinDingo4 жыл бұрын
@@trautist0457 im not saying its not accurate from a spinning rod, my previous reply admits this as well, and i use spinning gear, too. Im just saying i have an easier time putting a 1/64th oz marabou jig where i want it with my 4 weight or a 6 weight if the wind is kicking up. And, likewise, as in op, if im trying to throw a 1/8 ounce jig head with a wooly bugger tied on it, i want my spinning rod
