Very nice little OS. Basic but nice and vintage. Honestly.. I prefer that unique V shape blue head, I had a 15 cvx, that was my very first optional engine, I wish I still had that engine (and the car in wich it was installed 😅). The .12 red one was also very nice looking

Love the hyper edition the billet head definitely makes the cv run cooler and sound slightly different over the stock cv cast head. Did you know there was a abc upgrade piston and sleeve with rod kit made for the duratrax 12pd engine but it fitted the os max 12cv

I have one of 2 these it’s not new but they work also one has an o donnel racing head an the other has the gold hyper both non pull start love em great engines I don’t use them as much anymore though too keep them in good condition one of the carbs has different adjustment on the low speed instead of just being a screw it’s got a metal spring sorta thing around it so you can adjust the low speed in small intervals gives it a click sorta feel per turn if that makes sense reslly helps with fine tuning the low speed
@a2rc
@a2rc 4 ай бұрын
Oh yeah, I definitely know what you mean about the “clicking”. OS, for some reason, made a couple changes/revisions of the carbs along the way - It’s awesome that you have two of these engines. Both 12s or are they 15s? What car/truck are they in? - Clean them up and run a bit, as you know they are fun to drive 🩷 I appreciate you taking the time to write and great message. Love it ‼️

They could have done better with opening a spot in the block for the boost port making it a real 3 port. and ABC sleeve with a oil grove in the top few MM of piston. The pipe kit actually runs quite well. It was definitely a nice upgrade on the old 15FE engines. And with the fuels go 8% oil bump it to 12% with blendzall green label castor oil definitely helped the old ABN stuff live a long time 😎🍻🤘🏻
@a2rc
@a2rc Ай бұрын
I agree Bug 💯 The engine design could have been a bit better but, they still perform pretty well for what they are. I have been surprised at performance the all blue RS4s build (everyone will see that project on some future Adventures) that has the blue 15CV Hyper w/O’Donnell Head - Like everything, a little care and some maintenance can allow for these old ABNs to last a long time. Unfortunately, we know that the majority of folks that ran these engine back in the day, just didn’t know what was needed and destroyed them quickly. I really enjoy talking, showing and sharing these vintage engines with the RC community. It helps to keep their history alive. I am sure you feel the same I appreciate you taking the time to write and for watchn’ 🩷 I always enjoy watching your adventures too

Thanks for the interesting video! Great looking engine! Are all the OS CV engines (12 and 15) ABN construction? As I remember the CVR's are with ABC. If you compare ABN with ABC what are the advantages and disadvatnages of both in your opinion?
@a2rc
@a2rc 4 ай бұрын
Hey and thanks for the question (a great one)! - OS made a mix of engine styles with both ABN and ABC. You are right, the CV-Rs do have ABC construction. They do have their differences, ABNs generally have thicker sleeves to help compensate for the nickel plating (which is not as hard as chrome). It is also less expensive to nickel plate a sleeve. - The ABCs that have chrome plating, last much longer, the sleeve is normally lighter weight, generally can with stand higher temperatures and lower oil concentrations but, it is more expensive to manufacture. When you compare the two styles, higher performing and reving engines will be chrome plated I hope that helps a bit and as always, I appreciate you watchn’ 🩷

@@a2rc Thank you very much for the clarification! It would be very exciting to see a future video, dedicated on breaking in procedures! I'м very curious to see how you perform it! I've seen videos on youtube how people don't stop their engines during the heatcykles, just cooling them down with compressed air and having them running during the whole process (to avoid the cold start). What is your opinion on that?
@a2rc
@a2rc 4 ай бұрын
@@lyubennyagulov9012 umm well, I personably wouldn’t suggest that…. Break-ins are/seem to be very subjective but, I have been performing my break-ins the same way for 25+ years now. I seem to have pretty good success so far. A good example is the 15CV-R I have shown on a few vids Heat cycles, lube and a slower approach is what I suggest. Yes, you can “break-in” a sleeve “faster” but, that doesn’t always result in a longer life (if that makes sense). I treat mine more like an oil bath It is a good video topic and will definitely consider it for a future vid.

Nice video 🙂 how would you say the high end .12 engines can hold up to a cheap. 18. Considering buying a quality .12 engine to replace my VX18 in my HSP Backwash. It's pretty hard to find .18 engines these days.
@a2rc
@a2rc 4 ай бұрын
I appreciate you watch’ 🩷 and taking the time to write One of the best quality and best price for an 18s right now, is the HPI T3.0 and/or G3.0 (depending on what crank shaft and backplate style you need). They are a billion times better than the VX engines - You can go with a higher performance 12 if you would like. Just depends on what you are trying to accomplish with the buggy. You can always go vintage too. OS 18CVR for example. - Let me know what you end up deciding 💯

I have heard about the kit which, came out back on the day. Ron Paris worked with a number of companies. He developed a few innovative things along the way. - I think that’s the kit that had the dished piston, head, shims and maybe a crank (not sure).
