An excellent review. My mother wore the original Oscar in the late 70's. I loved the scent. Unfortunately, the reformulation of Oscar pales in comparison. Thank you for giving me other ODL fragrance options to try on this video and others. ( New subscriber.) I also agree that Oscar De La Renta's couture and fragrances are underrated. My future purchases: Esprit D'oscar, Volupte, Bella Blanca.

I love this perfume and took years to locate the perfume as not readily available in stores like previously. I have one slight concern, the perfume spray does not seem to last. Is this normal? Thanks

I love L'Esprit de Oscar de la Renta, did you have a chance to smell it? It reminds me of a softer airy version of Guerlain's L'Heure Bleue. You made me so curious about Volupté, I need to get it.

Hello Alexandra, yes I review esprit d’oscar in this video. It is the small bottle with a flower cap. I prefer esprit d’oscar compared to the recent version of Oscar de la renta. Volupté is very special with some fruity notes on the opening, a little bit sweet but not sugary and a very rich and opulent bouquet of white flowers. There is also peony, a French flower which smells gorgeous. It is very vibrant and joyful, very 90’s vibe. I would wear this perfume with a pink mini skirt in tweed and Chanel ballerine.

It’s a beautiful floral fresh perfumes. Perfect summer perfume in my opinion, it’s light and airy in the opening and turns to something floral and aquatic in the dry down. Lovely floral

@@Aliceinparisofficial I bought it and loved it so much that I bought 2 back-up bottles as it's hard to find here in the UK. If you can get your nose on Jean Patou's Vacances, I think you'll like it. It's a stunning fresh, green floral fragrance.

Hi, it's great that you did this review, Oscar de la renta from 1977 is one of the best fragrances I know, and I don't think I ever smelled it on anyone, so underrated. It is very complex, multi layered and satisfying, and the result is interesting, reminds me a little bit of Arpege taken to an oriental direction. His second perfume, "Ruffles" from 1984, was also very good- a sweet spicy floral, very flamboyant. it had one of the most beautiful openings, very captivating, but I'm afraid in a vintage bottle you won't be able to experience that anymore. Volupte I think I smelled once on someone when it was released, and if I remember well it's very impressive and potent with a crazy sillage. Christian Lacroix is such a genius! I always wanted to try "C'est la vie", his first perfume from 1989, hope you can make a review of it one day. By the way, he did have a ready to wear line for women (and for a short period also for men), and it was called "Bazar" (like his perfume).

Hi, thank you so much for your nice comment! Yes, Oscar de la Renta perfumes are really underrated but they are very classy and elegant. I am thinking to buy Esprit d'Oscar which is very close to the original Oscar de la Renta. I was very disapointed by the new version of Oscar de la Renta.... I did not smell Ruffles but I hope to find something on Ebay. This is so funnt but I received last week a bottle of C'est la Vie de Christian Lacroix... I am thinking to do a review of Christian Lacroix perfumes because they are so special....

What a great comment! I have Oscar and I'm unsure if there are any animalic notes in it (I can't see any listed on any fragrance website) but on me, it's very distinct. I wonder what that ghost note is, if it's not an animalic of some kind? I love reading reviews and stories so I hope someone, somewhere, will mention the animalic touch in 'Oscar' too so that I know I'm not having a worrying olfactory hallucination of some kind. 😅

Queen Elizabeth II wore L'Heure Bleu and the rose scent from Floris, so it is generally said. A favourite amongst the last few generations of the English aristocracy (for anyone who cares about such details) is Oscar by Oscar de la Renta. Whenever I smell it, I think of country house gatherings in the 1980s with a lot of tweedy Sloany-pony types walking up gravel paths in Gloucestershire. 😄 The other fragrance I can imagine the older aristocracy wearing are Hasu No Hana and Shem El Nessim by Grossmith (the wearers have expensive woollen cardigans on, all covered in dog hair). The other fragrances mingling in the air are sun-warmed box hedge, fresh horse manure, spicy carnations and roses from the garden and hay. When you take your Rolls Royce in for servicing in the UK, they finish by spritzing your interior with their signature fragrance made specially for RR. Apree L'Ondee is the fragrance mentioned in Nancy Mitford's 'The Pursuit of Love', so that one will always make me think of the landed gentry and 'Hons' of the 1930s. I wear Oscar whenever I want to feel mumsy and retro. 😀

I checked après l’ondée from a Guerlain and I want to try this one so bad. Perfect perfume for rainy and moody day… just ordered some sample of Grossmith and will review them…. @@Aliceinparisofficial I think very few people would wear these 'old school' chypres and classics from Grossmith. You're one of them. They're of a style that is 'out of fashion' at the moment, certainly for people under 50. However, you're the type of woman who doesn't care about trends and feel pressurised to follow the herd movement when it comes to aesthetics: you care about style. They're so chic and smell rich and elegant, instantly recognisable as high quality and expensive; someone would have to be really unsophisticated and uncultured to not recognise it immediately. I mentioned those fragrances in my comment because you are THE PERFECT woman to wear them-- and wear them well. I wonder if they'll suit your skin? I look forward to your reviews. Country house chic is a great vibe to channel sometimes, isn't it? In France it would be old money chateau weekends...I wonder what wealthy old money folks in France wore to their chateau gatherings in the 1930s and the 1980s especially? You've made me really curious now and frustrated too, as I have no avenues to pursue when it comes to researching this. PS= In the Nancy Mitford novel a handsome soldier mentions 'Apree L'Ondee' by inhaling discreetly and smiling as the novel's heroine is talking then dreamily saying, 'what a delicious scent! Is it Apree L'Ondee?'

I really love the ''Rose'' by Oscar. It does lasts long but it such a fresh and delicious kind of rose with a pear and lilly of the valley nuances... It smelled amazing in spring and in summer, but when I'd tried it this autumn it seemed to me a little bit synthetic... so I left it untill the warmer days :) Did You try Espit d'Oscar which is claimed as the modernized interpretation of the classic Oscar by Oscar? What do You think about this fragrance if You tried it?

I would love to try the Rose by Oscar. Definitely poetic, romantic, and dreamy like Oscar's style! I was disapointed by the new version of Oscar. I found it very synthetic, which is a shame for such classy and iconic perfume. I am thinking to buy Esprit d'Oscar because you will find the Oscar iconic powdery smell which I did not find in Oscar version. I will let you know when I receive this one!

Yes but because the Spanish have invaded R.Dominica there is a lot of Spanish inspiration. And Oscar De la Renta used to claim in many interviews his Spanish influence....
