Many many years ago going home in hot summer afternoons, I often heard Peterson's music from the 4th floor good loud by tape recorder.......it was my father who was listening his music. Thanks him forever introducing me to his brilliant play! And - of course - the man, who uploded it! Marianna

Meu eterno mestre, sem igual . Linhas melódicas com as duas mãos que ele criou, nenhum dos mestres do erodito escreveram em suas obras. Meu grande inspirador.

I'm a huge fan of Bach - Probably one of the biggest there is - but Oscar can hang with Bach all day.

Is Peterson referring to any of Bach's pieces in particular? I don't hear it.

@Easleytee Someone once said the difference between a clever guy and a genius, is the clever guy is what you could be with shovels of talent and application. The genius comes from another place, you can't replicate what they do

No, but the Bach's Blues is included in The Bach Suite, that he wrote for Bach's 300th birthday

@Easleytee He didn't say geniuses, he said musical geniuses and by that he of course meant they were creative and talented in the way they played, because behind the playing lies a lot of theory and expertise in the way to manipulate notes. So yeah, don't be faultfinding.

Oh really? Too Canadian is he? Well that's a new one for me. It's a 12 bar blues not a prelude and fugue. (Like it's Jazz - gottit?). I have said this before: Better shut your trap and be regarded as an idiot - than openen it and prove you are one. He 'Plays too stiff'. Sounds like the Pea Nut U. music appreciation program
@metacosmos
@metacosmos 8 жыл бұрын
to play stiff you just take the music from another country and play it according to the written sheet music but without soul.That was the way Oscar peterson played jazz.

I do indeed. I do indeed. And a few hundred others from The King to beyond Bird; from Monteverdi to Copland; from Joplin to Emmy Lou and Ladysmith Black Mombaza to Dire Straits. Like Duke said: There's 2 kinds of music: good & bad

I really love Oscar Peterson. It's a shame on this recording that mixing (mostly the balance) is awful as the sound of the bassist, it sounds like a cow...... bad sound engineer.....

@metacosmos

Oscar peterson was too much Canadian to play jazz or Bach with softness, he plays too much stiff.
@metacosmos

Jazz belongs to the US, in Canada they only imitate, in an academic way , what the US jazzmen do, so did Oscar peterson.

Oscar peterson was an academic player, not a real creator, you must be yankee to do that.

+metacosmos What a troll you are! Jazz is beyond any distinctions of nationality (other than it's origins), and Oscar Peterson may be the finest jazz pianist ever.
@metacosmos
@metacosmos 8 жыл бұрын
he was not, he was a very academic player, he had learnt a lot from the US jazz players but he was not an innovator or a creator. he just adapted the Us jazz art to the Canadian way of life, as it happens with all the Canadian popular music which is an adaptation of the Us popular music to the tastes and way of playing of the canadians.
