Such great comments by an amazing collection of appreciative, knowledgeable people leaving comments. Very feeling group. Losing Oscar Peterson, Niels-Henning Pedersen, Joe Pass, Bill Evans, Stan Getz, Miles Davis, etc. is heart-breaking. There will never be another period of musical geniuses like the 50s and 60s gave us. It was a high-water mark never to be achieved again it seems.

I think I would like to pretend that Bill Evans never died. I know how crazy that sounds, but I love Bill Evans for making me feel the way I do when he plays. I cannot explain it. This too was one of my all time favorites of Oscar's. Saw him play it several times on both coasts. Talked with him briefly after one of his concerts at Symphony Hall in Boston, while I was a student at Berklee Music College in the mid-80s. He was generous with his advice and as personal as though I was a friend. It only deepened my lifelong, heartfelt joy at his technique and musicality.

Very impressive ... I had the privelege to see him at Marciac in 2004, and i remember how it was moving when he confessed that he could not really use his left hand, and Everyone understood why he has a very gifted bassman close to him on the stage, and the second time when he played a ballad and cried at the end of it saying that it was the preferred music of his late wife. A great musician and a very humble human, Respect Mister Oscar, you’ll remain as a legend in the heart of all music lovers.

If you watch any of the live versions of this from his younger years and then watch this version… It is almost a commentary on life. The song is such a happy song and with the exuberance of his youth, Oscar was able to light the piano on fire. The melodic style of this song just brings such a refreshing enjoyment of music. Watching this version - much slower, with some errors, and his left hand playing a fraction of the notes that it used to be able to play - still a song of beauty but the tempo & the visual of Oscar’s age make this more of a solemn, peaceful, reflective song. This is my favorite Oscar Peterson song. Yes, other songs may have been faster and more in line with bebop and did not allow him to show his range of prowess on the piano. Even the original recording wasn’t lightning fast but there was beauty and such a few chords that allowed Oscar and his bassist to dance around beautifully and show their artistic mastery If anybody is looking for another soulful and extra melodic jazz song, check out Ray Charles and David “Fathead” Newman - Hard Times

I think the thing with some people who "don't get" jazz is that they try to listen too actively instead of just enjoying the ride. But that's just a long-time novice listener's opinion.
