An underrated and underappreciated comedy movie which was a nice callback to 1930s screwball comedy films. It was also the last good John Landis film.

Exactly. I loved those screwball comedies so I could see what they were going for. When you see what they're trying to do then it's easy to enjoy it.

Definitely an underrated comedy with Stallone. That and the other Italian comedy he was in a decade later "Avenging Angelo"

I remember seeing this and liking it. It was so different from what Stallone usually does and I thought it was goofy and charming.

Another thing I love about this film is that you can actually understand what Stallone is saying. I'm a native English speaker and I need subtitles on some of his films.

I forgot this one, as a kid was kind of surprising seen Stallone who was an established action star starring in this movie, he had potential for other kinds of roles, back in the day was not for me but in retrospect I think they did a great job making something relatively entertaining from this silly script and is because of the great cast.

When I first got satellite TV in the early 90s I had a Swedish channel that played non-stop movies and this was the first one I watched on it. They re-played it a few times a week so I watched it a few times and my appreciation grew. The supporting cast is fantastic, especially Marisa Tomei and the stereotypical mobster goons.

For some reason, Oscar always reminds me of another screwball comedy from the 1980's/90's (I think it was called "Blame it on the Bellboy") in which 3 unrelated characters with the same name go to a hotel in Venice in which a hitman tries -again and again- to kill the wrong woman and keeps killing loads of pigeons by accident. I remember kind of liking that movie.

The whole movie is structured like a classic stage "farce" (like Wilde's "Earnest"), and I think it'd work great on a theatre stage too. I can't attribute this movie not being rated highly and talked more about to anything but 1. Americans being uncultured swines unfamiliar with theater, 2. critics hypocritically loving to hate on action stars switching to comedies. What saved Schwarzenegger's similarly vilified on release Jingle Bells is that it's an Xmas films and so the masses who saw it as kids could correct the opinion on it. Oscar had no such luck, which is hugely unfair. I think Stallone definitely meant this more for the European audience and her father's home country of Italy, and indeed we received it more fondly here.

Heard of this film but never knew what it was about or that it was a John Landis flick. Wasn’t this one of the big early nineties bombs of Stallone’s career in the early 90’s? At least he had the double whammy (not a Dredd reference) of Cliffhanger and Demolition Man to rebound. For a bit

Over the top is a great Stallone movie he is a trucker, and an arm wrestling enthusiast. Some people say that it's not very good, but you will always remember how to arm wrestle after seeing it. Also the arm wrestling competition has the actual an arm wrestling champion who won a contest to be in the movie

My Mom took me to see this when I was 6. I think Marisa Tomei was on Oprah, I have NO clue why she'd wanna see it otherwise. I was too young to appreciate it, but I do now. Also, John Landis and his son are horrible people.

It's a shame this movie didn't work. It has a GREAT cast! And everyone does their parts well. Especially Tim Curry! You can't go wrong with him! It's not one of the worst films I've seen. But it's a stupid fun movie that you shut your brain off and enjoy!

I love Stallone, he is one of my heroes from my childhood, but this poor excuse for a movie is utter trash. It cannot even hope to hold a candle to the original french movie (also titled Oscar) from 1967 (starring Louis de Funès - who also played the main character in the french stage play before that - and Claude Gensac who appeared at his side in many of his comedies). As comedies go, this is like comparing day to night, as everybody who has seen the original adaptation can attest. Louis de Funès is a raging human dynamo in this one. As for the movie rarely leaving the house... well, is IS a stage play first and foremost and at least in that aspect they did not butcher the original. Well, not too much that is.
