MASTERFUL MOVE. Forced Daemon to kill his own man. While he secured his own control over his bannermen by showing Daemon had no loyalty. Completely under the guise of serving justice.

I did not interpret it that way. Brilliant honestly. People hate on the Harrenhal plot but without it we wouldnt get this. And people hate what Daemon has become but I like seeing the nuance that this situation is forcing out of him.

@@emanuel81111 i disagree and disagree strongly. Daemon was a callous unremorseful, impulsive, reckless and over rationalizing person who cared only about his own prestige. He believed himself deserving because of strength, and never felt remorse for how he treated Viserys, his kids or Rhaenyra, or for the evil hes done to Rhea Royce and allowed to happen to the small fold by Willem. Daemon deciding to kill Willem, after seeing how Willem’s actions that were done in selfish haste in the name of house Targaryen, is a mirror of Daemon killing the part of himself that acts out with selfish haste for his own gain. He is dispensing justice for Blackwood and against himself. After this Dwemon’s purpose will be reworked. He will no linger be a callous, selfish and rationalizing person, but a loyal fighter who will die for his family. He gained virtue from this ordeal.

@@TheRealHerbaSchmurba have you read my comment? i said Daemon was already merciless, evil, unremorseful, impulsive and reckless person. Now Daemon starts to realize hes far far from what he thinks he is, a little kid is putting him in his place, his own actions betrays him , people hate him. Now he realizes hes not made to be a king. I read a lot of people talking up how "Daemon was owned by a child," which is factually true; but Oscar Tully made a master play. Pretending to be a callow youth he tapped Daemon's arrogance and overconfidence, causing him to openly reveal his real character and intentions. Then by publicly forcing Daemon to accept his chastisement and bend to his will, Oscar cemented the respect and loyalty of the river lords.

101 medieval politics: the vassal of my vassal is not my vassal
@alirezadehghani58736 ай бұрын
Not sure irl, but in Westeros that's not true. Every lord, paramount or petty, every night, landed or not, are sworn an outh to the crown and to their direct liege. This multi-allegience is a big issue in every conflict or civil war in Westeros. Most lords, including ones in this scene, need to be knighted in order to be decently respected by vassals. So basically they swear to the king mire than once in their life time.
@pavelshliaha17065 ай бұрын
@@alirezadehghani5873 exactly. Jamie Lannister points it in a monologue, where he explains that he, as a knight is forced to swear complete obedience to many powers, and when they are in conflict you will need to break allegiance with some of them. This is obviously true for medieval ages as well. You can't be simultaneously loyal to your king and your baron, since your baron and king might go to war. There is no way to reconcile this problem, because it is not a bug but a feature.

@@alirezadehghani5873 And what he said still doesn't make sense. Calling Daemon king consort is absolutely not why Daemon killed him. I'm pretty sure Daemon at this point didn't even care or paid attention. Blackwood sealed his fate when he agreed to do Daemon's dirty work, believing he had his protection. But what Daemon wanted was the River lords swords even if he had to sacrifice Blackwood to get them. When Oscar told Daemon: "make your choice: it's our swords and Blackwood's head or you can go f... yourself" then he was virtually dead. Calling him "king consort" or "god emperor of the universe" wouldn't change anything.
@masterplokoon88032 ай бұрын
@@alirezadehghani5873 the "consort" part is vital when it comes to displaying loyalty to Rhaenyra. When someone calls someone "Queen" one does not imediatly assume supreme authority as queens are usually merely the wife of the king. The word "King" alone imediatly presumes supreme authority which is why kings who were merely the husbands of rulling queens needed to be refered as "king consort" or some other name, otherwise people might mistake them as rhe supreme authority.

Dude I hate this portrayal of Daemon. He should have come to that meeting on Caraxes and burned anyone who didn’t fight for him. If Oscar wanted to play games maybe the next Tully won’t.

The kid wasnt trying to own daemon in anyway. This was truely the only way to get everyone to fall in line. He didnt like the way things had to go down anymore than daemon did.

A master stroke by a young Oscar. He stripped Daemon of his only Riverland ally, appeased his own bannermen, and now has full control of his kingdom, while also now being able to side with Rhaenyra. Only drawback is he will have the animosity of House Blackwood (wonder how they'll handle Benjicot Blackwood if at all) for the sake of the Brackens.

In this scene you can perfectly see that the showrunners hate daemon, that scene doesnt happen in the book, the real daemon would never let himself be played around, oscar would be dead if this happens in the book, but in the book he is only the younger brother of lord kermit, dont know why they changed that
@jenwilly72606 ай бұрын
Daemon did what needed to be done to secure House Tully and the Rivermen for Rhaenyra's cause. He paid penance for what he did (though Willem DID go off-script and did things he was instructed not to do). Similar to how he insteucted Blood & Cheese and THEY went off-script. He even publicly admitted his personal failings here. This actually did show a lot of growth in Daemon. I wonder if he now accepts that he is not the heir for a reason and fully supports Rhaenyra now...

I love the layers in this scene. Oscar exposed the intention of Willem to commit atrocities and hide behind the crown(Daemon). Willem and Daemon were using each other for their own ends. The difference between Daemon and Willem is that, when confronted about their intentions, Daemon admits his self-interest and desires. Willem lies and plays the " Daemon told me to do it. I listen to my leaders, i was just being a good subordinate" angle. Everyone knows he did it because he wanted to out of malice and disdain for the Brackens. It was easy for Daemon to execute him after he tried to throw Daemon under the bus multiple times. He even flew royal banners while committing war crimes of his own volition. Which further proves Oscars point and makes him the snake who betrayed Daemon and not the other way around.
@danieldickson85916 ай бұрын
I agree with almost everything you said, except that it was easy for Daemon to execute Willem. Willem had actually been a willing and loyal henchman, doing what his liege wanted albeit not the way he wanted it. Daemon was forced to betray that loyalty, and you can see the grief that caused Daemon on his face after beheading Willem.

There was no trial for Willem. Trial by combat is for those whose guilt has not fully been determined. Willem is deemed guilty already here. No trial at all is required. All he could do was ask to be allowed to take the black.
