I love how when you comment, it's always about the garment and not about the body of the wearer. All bodies are different and for those people that are outside the fashion norm, you are never derogatory or diminishing to them. It is always about the garment and your level of respect for people is so amazing.
@dianeshelton959210 ай бұрын
Actually these women ARE the norm and fashion really should be able to cope with a short Florence Pugh or a plumper Lily Gladstone. The fact that fashion houses only design and dress stick thin tall people is really sad. Dear lord Florence’s figure is lovely as is Lily’s to make dresses for them should be so easy
@staceytheresatammytinataco548810 ай бұрын
@@dianeshelton9592yes, when I say “fashion norm” that is commentary on the stick thin models that have always seemed to be popular for designers. Those that are outside of the fashion norm are about 90% of the population. Although you’d never know it from the runway models.
@katinkaraab196410 ай бұрын
Yeah but on the other hand, often the fitting has to be done rather haistly. It is rather unfortunate that way too often it is fitting that makes or breaks a look. And for clothing to fit perfect 1 lbs off from fitting weight can already make a difference. The garments in models often are fitted again (with needles) 10 min prior entering the runway. This obviously isn't possible for garments you are planning to wear for several hours.

AMEN to that sister. What I don't get is. These women are really at the top...at least THEY'RE at the Oscars and going to all the after parties. At that point you don't have to show off your underwear. It seems so desperate. Yea they might be remembered, but for what. What kind of "OFFERS" is it going to elicit? I would think they'd want to go the other way, pretty but more artistic or serious, grown up based. Something that would tell producers, directors, I'm not here to offer my body for a job. I'm here to offer my sense and sensibilities for that lead role.
@Angel-ts8rc10 ай бұрын
@@chriswilson4112well your reading things one way. Because you could also read it as first and foremost- body parts are just body parts. And secondly it can be a projection of confidence, freedom, personal sensuality, and can absolutely be done creatively and artistically. Not everything revolves around what men will think. These are adults who can make their own choices.
@williamsstephens10 ай бұрын
ChrisWilson said absolutely nothing based in the male gaze. On the contrary, he played up women as *more* than just pretty bodies.

@@williamsstephens are you replying to me? They made remarks about they way women express themselves and how that will affect their jobs, remarks about producers and directors who are mostly men. Not “having to” show off anymore. Remarks about “offers” which says enough. Certainly there is judgement about female bodies and categorizing who can and can’t express sensuality with clothes. And those remarks about “offers” and producers and directors as I mentioned implies something with they way women are viewed sexually, the sexualization and censorship of the female body mostly comes from men. The whole comment revolves around the sexualization and censorship of the female body and sensuality. So not quite “playing them up”. And I guess your saying they are a man. So, ya know….

@Soulcrash310 ай бұрын
Sydney's look feels very predictable and one note. Angelina's seems to contrast and balance out her more goddess like powerful aura and that's what stops it from looking borrowed and costume-y. Sydney really needs to step out of the sad girl's aesthetic comfort zone she has aesthetically type casted herself into and do something with more edge or at least less... boring? Dress for the girls not the boys type of ordeal? Experiment a bit?

Kelly Rowland’s dress gave her hub cap boobage that didn’t look great. Overall, the gowns weren’t awful, the actresses wearing several of them needed to have stylists who can step away from the moment to ensure that the draping, seams, and fit were as close to perfect as possible.

Always a delight, Luke! Thank you!!! 👏 I found the Vanity Fair after party looks to be more exciting than the show. My fave look for the main event was Hailee Steinfeld; gorgeous in her light blue feminine confection. My man-of-the-night was Justin Timberlake. His black suit was perfection and I loved the diamond brooch. At a close tie was Coleman Domingo in that crystalized graphic portrait ankle-length coat. Also, his energy is next level. His & Sydney Sweeny's moment was joyful and beautifully loving. So glad the past penchant for dresses being plunged, wide, down to the navel was not evidenced that much, thank goodness. Navel plunges and peplums I would be happy to see, never again! Kylie's Jenner's garnet red dress was perfection. What 'made' it, was the narrow brighter, lighter red trim defining the straps and bra outline. Just that pop of bright red against the dark complemented a well fitted dress. She wore it well. Didn't like Anya's look. Disliked the head cap and chunky dangling pearl drops. The plain black mini looked like those two clunky clear crystal applique up top were bought from WISH. And then the pedestrian, lace butterfly applique bridging the boobage looked to have been added as an afterthought out of spare scraps laying around the workroom floor. 🤣 Margo's champagne corset-like trapeze costume was attractive, as was the voluminous jacket cover-up. Thing is - yes, we know she's got a great body. Same for most of these ladies playing up that fact. The ones that go full-on sheer, leaving nothing to the imagination are just straight-up exhibitionists. As to the stiff architectural vibe? Not a fan. At all. But I get it. Designers need to find new approaches to making runway innovative &/or interesting. I don't know what in tarnation happened to Heidi Klum. She's a world treasure. But that icky, metallic gold, sloppy mummy- wrap she had going on was just bad; so bad. And the slicked back, wet-look darker hair, overly applied make-up, bad as well. But then again, I often find her red carpet choices questionable. Lastly, Jennifer Lawrence in that white uber-feminine empire gown was lovely, sweet womanly perfection. I noticed at least 4 other dresses vibing off that French Neoclassical Regency feel, but hadn't started taking notes yet or didn't know who the persons were. I recall one having a maroon red sash/poof sleeve detailing up top top over a light coral empire gown. Another - Photogs were calling out to "BeeBee/BB (?) who also had that feminine, empire Regency vibe going on. (wish I'd have noted more detail) Brings to mind Jeffrey Sebelius from Project Runway Season 3. I remember he made two short dress confections: one, of white embroidered sheer, layered over a red dotted fabric w/ a lovely empire decolletage and another comprised of a powdery tanzanite-blue, velvet (?) bodice, sashed in red beneath pretty scooped bodice flowing into a short poof of sheer white lace gathered at mildly ruffled hem. Ultra feminine and sexy w/o being in your face. He had that empire, lacey, femininity going on and images of those feminine dresses have stayed with me all these years later. Back to the VF party. There was a woman photogs were calling Christa, wearing what I would describe as Evening Edwardian: fitted black midi-length coat, black straight skirt or pant and outstanding exaggerated, white, elongated lace-edged collar and cuffs. Buttoned up. Cool yet still feminine! My #1 Woman - Jenn Lawrence. The woman is pure Beauty, inside & out! Bellissima! #1 Man - Colman in Armani Prive graphic portrait coat and Justin Timberlake in a sleek, black suit with one high-placed side-button closure nipping in the waist and an interesting front side vent over the trouser pocket (as opposed to back vent.) Thanks again, Luke!!! I enjoyed all from a generous laptop screen. Nice!

This and his Oscar outfit has me convinced that Coleman Domingo was the best dressed, for men and women, overall. Perfection 👌

I appreciate how you explain the history of a look or the call back it's going for. I appreciate your knowledge of fashion.

I love your content! I honestly get so excited every time you post videos like this one😍 I just have one small note... Alberto Giacometti (mentioned in regard to the Jacquemus gown worn by Emrata) is Swiss. He is honestly one of only two major visual artists who are/were Swiss. Pls don't say he is Italian. They have enough famous artists of whom they can be proud😁

I absolutely love your videos. Is it possible to get back views of the dresses? That is the most frustrating of all...not being able to see the back views...some are fascinating, while others are just there

About america ferrera's dress bottom hem: it looks like it was too short and they had extra fabric laying around

That Robert Wun ensemble that Catherine O' Hara is wearing is incredible. Those pleated sleeves and the collar, Oh MY! And the pearls sewn onto the skirt fabric, just.... wow. I am often underwhelmed by fashion today.

I think Margot Robbie is holding that stole around her like that because of her pose. That pose is one used to create or enlarge the gap between the thighs. However, it might be exaggerating the hips/

Looks like all the houses are obsessed right now with sheer dresses with embroidery / embellishments or no pants. Catherine O’Hara killed it and was a breath of fresh air.

Totally agree re length of AT"s dress. With the headpiece, bejewelled shoulders, fancy bodice, it's out of balance being so short. Long, it would be fab.

The vanity fair after party doesn’t just have to do with actors/those in Hollywood. It’s supposed to be all famous people attending. AKA an after party lol.

Luke, I love your reviews your knowledge in fashion, your insights and the way you explain all these. BUT, my favourite thing, above all that, is the shade over the Kardashians (and they deserve it)

I agree. That was the first look, if i am not mistaken, from Balmain's menswear collection. It made such an impact because it was so fabulous, so unique that i, as a woman, would have wanted to wear it if i had had the money to afford it.
