Herschel McCoy was from Meridian, Mississippi, and his mother and my grandmother were friends. When Herschel moved out to Hollywood to become a costume designer, he took his mother with him, and later, in the early 40s, my grandmother went to visit and took my mom, who was 9, and they stayed with the McCoys for several months. He made beautiful dresses for my mother and took her to the studios and movie premieres. I have her autograph book from her time in Hollywood, and it’s worth more to me than a box of gold. There isn’t much information about him, but he is listed on IMDb. He was nominated for Oscars twice, and died fairly young.

How come this is in colour and then it would be black and white till the early 60s ?

Darren T The Academy Awards ceromonies of 1951 and 1952, were filmed in Technicolor, for preservation. The first televised broadcast of the ceromonies were in 1953, using black-and-white television cameras.

Somebody was thinking ahead in '51 and '52, with all those movie people there, you'd think they would have done all the following years in color.
