She would be subject to retaliation. Edith was not the sole designer on large productions and has been accused of taken credit for other people's work. Besides, being diplomatic with the stars was part of the job. People have to feel good about themselves to look good. Edith flattered where she could. Barbara Stanwyck had a low waist and no rump. She was often dressed with a very wide waistband detail that dipped lower in the back. This made her proportions appear closer to standard dimensions.

They tell a story and often she’d quick tricks to assemble them. You wouldn’t want to wear them in real life. Costume design for movies is not the same thing as haute couture the way they make it in Paris and so on. They’re different art forms. People look at a Grace Kelly wearing a pretty dress in a Hitchcock film and imagine it to be as wonderful in real life. It wasn’t. The same could be said if Jackie Kennedy’s clothes. I'm not sure how true that is. If Edith dressed Agnes then it was a personal relationship. Added I noticed in a few episodes that Agnes and Elizabeth wear Pucci. Brightly colored geometric patterns. The only cast members whom the show dressed was Elizabeth and Dick. Everyone else wore their own clothes.
@garypesci7462 ай бұрын
@@CALLMESIR-p8h This is what I found online: "In 1967, Paramount declined to renew Head’s contract, despite her forty-three years at the company, not to mention her thirty Oscar nominations and seven wins (up to that point.) Head moved to Universal, where she worked mostly in television, such as designing Agnes Moorehead‘s clothing on Bewitched." Dick York's wardrobe, according to the closing credits, was furnished by Michaels-Stern, so it was probably supplied at no charge in exchange for the on-screen credit. I don't remember Samantha wearing any Pucci print outfits, she was supposed to be a "normal" housewife and wouldn't wear something like that. She even wore some of her own clothes. I have seen reruns recently where Endora is wearing Pucci style print clothes, but Edith Head could have bought Pucci print fabrics or designed the fabrics herself to look like Pucci prints. I doubt the show would pay for genuine Pucci designer clothes, as expensive as they were, and as frugal as the show's costume budget was. It's possible that Agnes Moorehead may have worn some of her own clothes that she bought from Pucci. It's also possible that she may have paid Edith Head to design her costumes, considering the show's budget, plus the fact that Edith Head never had any screen credit for costume design. I have heard that Agnes Moorehead was pretty much a diva, so she most likely wanted to look as good as possible. If she had to wear her own clothes, she would have wanted them to be new and designed specifically for her and chose to use Edith Head. She had a challenge with Gloria Swanson in Sunset Boulevard, conscious of the fact that Swanson was 50 at the time and had a bit of a belly (Edith Head's opinion, not mine), she wanted to accentuate her best parts. She was absolutely fabulous!!! Style is what you make it, but confidence carries it off. About her manner of speaking - she is straight forward/direct in her responses, a trademark of people who know their stuff. It can come across as rude, but it isn't.

Baby Bunny I really respect people like this. They are blunt but honest. I’d rather have these kind of people around me instead of the ones who smile and then turn around and stab you in the back, or who aren’t genuine at all. Unfortunately my in-laws are in the second group.

I love her. She is down to earth, honest, and sweet. Her first comment, "Why don't you mention the men?" She did not want to leave them out, just because she designed dresses, didn't mean she was sexist.

Edith Head was "da bomb!"(magnificent)! I started watching film credits to see who the costumer was listed. Her work STILL stands up today. Great interview by you and your co-host Ms. Eileen! Just wonderful seeing her with her trademark hairstyle and glasses. Those dresses for "A Place in the Sun" and ALL of 1957 version of "The Ten Commandments" still look great. Yul Brunner in that taupe fitted t-shirt and brown leather pleated skirt in gold three inch high heels is still hot! And that navy matte jersey draped gown with the red sash of the Queen when her son died moves so fluidly, I can see it in my mind's eye right now. Ms. Head had NO equal. Thanks for a beautiful memory. I will look up more of your interviews. And yup, I am a subscriber! Take care,

Times have really changed. She was a professionals professional in her work and that can sometimes make her appear 'tight' and somewhat impersonal. Specialist used to appear this way in many trades back then. Now everyone is expected to 'shine / sparkle' in front of the camera.

How funny and also very strange that she predicts that fashion will become part of the key to success in the 1980’s and how right she ended up being. Status, style, and displayals of wealth characterized the yuppie generation very much. She was on the money with that one.
@lapislazuli78765 ай бұрын
Yes I thought the same thing. Fashion became very glamorous and romantic in the 80s and in many ways was a revival of all the styles she had been famous for in the 1930s-1950s. The New Romantics of the early 80s right through to the high “Dynasty” glam of the mid-80s.

The progenitor of style, fashion and a bona fide genius of every aspect of attire. She is the example of how one becomes the best. You should see her work for Shirley MacLaine in the movie "What a Way to Go". It is a fashion show of the elite. BTW, Hedy Lamar was also a scientific genius who was instrumental in creating technology that was useful in WWII.

These interviewers were unfortunately nowhere near being in the same league as Edith- She seems a little annoyed by their questions or lack of informative questions. I love hearing what she has to say, but they may have wasted a huge opportunity to really hear something amazing.
@stmichl94335 жыл бұрын
Why are you defending her? She was egoic and rude and has no right to be.
@SerenityVonSavage4 жыл бұрын
I also thought this seemed like a wasted opportunity. Edith could have really given so much thought and information but was constantly being interrupted with questions about the temperament of actresses and how to look slim. There's so much research that goes into designing costumes. You have to know your history, art, theatre, psychology, film, fashion, fabric, and the practicalities of sourcing materials. That's before even having to communicate that with a team of wardrobe assistants. It's not professional to gossip about who you've dressed. Everything must be handled with respect.
@highbaritone4 жыл бұрын
Serenity Fire I too. I think the lady interviewed her badly. The man tried to make up for her, but she didn’t like it. Edith would have done dozens of these during the tour. She had to take the bad with the good.

I'll never forget when Donny & Marie Osmond had their talk show...Marie asking Jean Stapleton to say 'Archie'! in the high Edith voice. Jean looked at her point blank and said NO! The look on Marie's face was priceless..she did not know what to say next looked like she had been slapped in the face. She realized she had messed up big time and went directly to a commercial. Why she thought Jean was such a low level star that she had to do that is beyond logical thinking. All talk show hosts want to make a name for themselves by getting someone to dump dirt shock statement or F-bomb on live tv.. hoping to get into media next day.
