Anora is probably Sean Baker's best film. Mikey Madison will follow in the footsteps of Timothée Chalamet and be nominated for her very first leading role. 👏

@@ThisApp She'll win the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a comedy but I don't think the Oscar cause she's very young and not a huge star. She'll win many critics awards but no one is beating Saoirse Ronan.

@@davidfilmexpert they sometimes give the Oscar to the ingenue (Jennifer Lawrence was the last one I guess). I agree it’s rare. If I’m honest, I haven’t heard much about the Saoirse performance as an acting contender (I haven’t seen that one though) in comparison to Karla Sofia Gascon (Emilia Perez), Angelina Jolie (Maria), Nicole Kidman (Babygirl), etc.

It's not about performance it's about politics and Hollywood bs.

I think Mikey's performance is extremely over-rated. Yes, she does give her character a 'firecracker' personality where she uses the F-word in practically every sentence she speaks, and puts a lot of energy behind her one-note performance and the 'sex-act'. But that doesn't make her performance "extraordinary" or Oscar-worthy. Far from it. A lot of actresses can do what she did in 'Anora' and even give a more affective, better performance than that.

This film is a real masterpiece and I love that it has a bittersweet ambiguous ending that is open to interpretation from the audience. That's the best form of cinema. 🙌
@filmneye4 күн бұрын
You probably consider it "a real masterpiece" just because of its subject matter and the amount of sex in the film. I am a film buff and have seen just about All of the real masterpieces in cinematic history. 'Anora' is a mediocre film at best and is one of the most monotonous, repetitively overlong films I have ever seen in my long Life. How many f-ing times do I need to hear the f-word being used in a film?! Almost every f-ing sentence that's spoken in the film contains the f-word. I wish I could write such masterfully f-ing dialogue. And how many times do I need to see the 'sex-act' being performed in all of its raw glory to get the idea that the sex-worker & rich Russian brat of a client are having a lot of sex?! And when they go looking for Ivan, how many repetitive scenes does there have to be of them showing Ivan's photo & asking people "Have you seen this guy?" over & over again?! I get it already. They're looking for Ivan & having a hard time finding him. But do we have to see every single place that they go to looking for him?! And if Annie is such a feisty, firecracker of a girl, which was established throughout much of the film, Why would she cave-in so easily to Ivan's mother & go to Las Vegas to have the marriage annulled when she was hell-bent all along on staying married to him?! The entire film is a repetitive, monotonously contrived mess that is made pointless by Not staying true to the main character.

The Moderator for this 'Academy Conversation' seems to be really impressed with herself & her own questions w/o actually listening to their responses. The very 1st question she asked to Sean Baker when he wrapped up his answer about how the idea for this film came about with "it's a boring, convoluted story, but we got here.", she answers back with "No, No, it's not a boring, convoluted story." as if she thought he was describing his film as such and not the journey to making the film. TRY LISTENING to the Answer when You Interview Someone! And then when she asked Mark E., the actor who played Ivan, a very long question, which he came back with "that's actually two questions you're asking.", she was kind of taken aback at that and said, "well, yeh, what was the best part, what was the most exciting... put it together." in a condescending tone of voice. I really can't stand these Interviewers who are so impressed with themselves & their own questions that they don't even bother To Listen to the responses that are given.

I loved Karren in this film. Incredibly convincing character and superb acting. All of them were so good though! Mark IS his character :') Also, it is such a joy to see bystanders not realize they are in a movie; I love it when films shoot in public spaces and let the space be as it really is.
