Richard Curtis, the man who brought us Blackadder, The Vicar of Dibley, Mr Bean, who wrote for Not The Nine O'Clock News and Spitting Image. He brought us Four Weddings and a Funeral, Notting Hill, Bean the Movie, Mr Bean's Holiday, Bridget Jones Diary, Love Actually, The Boat That Rocked, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, and this year That Christmas. Co-launching Comic Relief with Lenny Henry. This man deserves every award going.

I truly believe Richard Curtis reinvented the way we saw British people on international cinema, especially British men. He put a heart on those characters, and made us understand their traumas and the pressure society put on them. Just because of the funeral speech on Four Weddings and a Funeral, or the father-son beach scene on About Time, he deserves this Oscar so very much.

Opening line from Richard tells you everything you ever need to know about British character. Richard says "I'm feeling emotional, I hope I don't show it". Can you imagine an American saying that? (that isn't a criticism, just an observation). An American would think "I'm feeling emotional, I hope that comes across so everyone can see". Just the way we are.

Love Hugh’s speech but don’t appreciate Richard pretending to know anything about politics and referencing these dark times (clearly referencing Trump). Curtis clearly isn’t half the the man Trump is
@BitsBytesBobs25 күн бұрын
The dark times he's referencing are the growing wars and disruption across the globe. Not everything is to do with America or Trump. There is a world outside of the USA, that Curtis has been fundamental in trying to ease the pain and suffering of those in such dire straits, both as a charity and campaigner to governments.

I've always enjoyed Richard Curtis' work but think it's a shame that he couldn't resist a political comment towards the end of his speech about the impact of the recent US election which voted Trump into power which just showed how out of touch he is or has zero understanding of why the majority of people would vote that way. So a bit off putting and confirms how the entertainment industry seem to be full of a certain sort of demographic, and definitely can't relate to working class people at all.

Richard Curtis is getting the Jean Hersholt award (there is an error in the title), which is given to people in the industry that have done important work with charities or activism for years, and whose involvement has actually made a difference. Mr. Curtis essentially created Red Nose day in the UK, and it has been a huge success over the years, it has had an important impact around the world. So your suggestions (though interesting for a regular career honorary Oscar) are actually not elegible for this category.
