I`m sorry, but that`s like saying if you`ve done great at school; you don`t need to get a job, because you`ve already proven yourself at school! That was a bad example. I completely understand what you mean, and of course the great actors like: De Niro, Pacino, Hoffman, Redford and Nicholson deserve to chill out after working their ass of through out their earlier careers. But it still annoys me to see Pacino and De Niro, two of the greatest actors of all time, being in movies that aren`t good enough for them. I just made a point about how great of an actor he is, and that his performances in his prime-time was something out of the norm.

As a glorious actor like De Niro ages it decreasing his opportunities to get leading or big roles, but that does not mean he was not offered such first-class ones (even at this age), but he most likely refused them, bеcause at his old age he looks for casual and less responsible roles. There isn't age limit for acting, but there is one for the roles and characters you can play and fit in.
