A Beautiful Mind is one of the few films ever to suggest that the life of the mind can be as exciting and intriguing as any thriller. Based on the story of Nobel Prize winning mathematician John Nash, the film's subtle but masterful cinematic technique puts audiences inside the mind of a troubled genius when he begins to question reality.

As much as I love TLOTR trilogy, I really think a beautiful mind deserved the Oscar. Is one of the best movies I ever seen
@88mphsss
@88mphsss 10 ай бұрын
I'm fine with it for the fact that it's a complete movie. I know there are fans who feel Fellowship is the best in the trilogy and should have been the one to represent it in this category, but I feel RotK brings the trilogy together more than a Part I that is open-ended. Because what if they'd given it to Fellowship and somehow the rest of the trilogy sucked? Or was never released! It does feel weird to have a movie that relies on 2 other movies be the winner because it feels like having a homework assignment, but it just feels more complete that way since the whole trilogy could be assessed and is likely why it was rewarded that night with all 11. I'd heavily consider trading Ron's directing trophy for Russell winning though, or maybe even a percentage of the Picture award. Brian says it was close but I dunno if that's a joke since I guess they used to reveal second place or maybe even all the rankings. I can't imagine that card has enough space to list all those percentages though. 🤣

Very well! Lord of the Rings is considered to this day a masterpiece, it is one of the most popular movies of all time. Its subject amtter is very complex and Peter Jackson handled it masterfully. The cast was perfect, and had an unforgetable performance from Sean Bean. The lord of the rings is perhaps the only movie that can be called perfect. Why in all of hell would you say its not a good movie?

The Lord of the Rings is my favorite series of films, but you can't get mad about the Fellowship of the Ring loosing when Return of the King took 11 oscars 2 years later. They couldnt just award the movies three years in a row so they had to choose which movie to shower the awards on. A Beautiful Mind was a great movie and the 2nd best choice behind LOTR. I enjoyed Moulin Rouge! but it's way too polarizing among viewers to win Best Picture.

The real contrast here is between Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring and In the Bedroom. The former, an epic fantasy based of classic literature, the latter an indie darling which became the first Sundance Film Festival movie nominated for Best Picture. In the Bedroom is the movie that opened the floodgates for the likes of Little Miss Sunshine, Winter's Bone, Kids are Alright and Manchester by the Sea getting nominated in later years

I just think that when A Beautiful Mind and Chicago won over LOTR 1 & 2, the Academy was just giving other movies, that were also great, some recognition as well. I liked A Beautiful Mind because it was well directed with lots of depth, and Chicago was very good too. Plus I think that the Academy was waiting to reward Return of the King and they did when it swept the Oscars in 03 and won 11.

***** I also love Star Wars and the original ones, not the prequels. In my opinion the only good thing about the prequels is the music. And I love The Force Awakens

@@emiliobello2538 If it's a great story and well made film, why not?! Although, I don't see the relevance to these stellar 2001 nominees.

Still I can´t understand how for the Academy, A beautiful Mind is better than Mullholland Drive, one of the decade´s films.

:O I'm thoroughly surprised Moulin Rouge was nominated. I mean, don't get me wrong, it's a wonderful movie and a good way to kill an hour and a half, but I was always under the impression that people didn't like Luhrmann's style that much.

I am the only one who think that neither A beautiful mind nor LOTR: The fellowship of the ring deserve to win. Oscar should have gone to "Mulholland Drive" one of the greatest movies and stories i have ever seen. It is also a best movie for screen writing point of you. Now a days it is considered among the best movies in past 15 years by many critics and film makers and got more critical acclaimed than that of any other LOTR movie but it was not even nominated for best picture that time.

I don't see why this film has so much hate. It really is a great movie and it's one of a kind. Lord of the Rings is great and all, but a film like this doesn't come along often. I think it deserved to win Best Picture.
