Please, if a PRN medication does not have a start date indicated, is it a valid prescription? Also, if the PO drug that was coded before surgery is not part of the start medication can it be administered?

PRN medication commences on the date they are prescribed so provided the date of prescription is there then that's a valid prescription. Its only that they depend on certain factors for instance paracetamol, you have check if the patient is in pain then check the last time that it was given. For the second question, You will not give the medication that was coded earlier on. This is because it is not due at that moment as its time of administration had passed. However, you can comment to the patient that you will let the prescriber review it.

For example if the patient had been administered Amolidpine 5mg od at 8am and levothyroxine 100mcg at 8am and you are to administer 14:00 wth the same above prescription stated in Stat dose/once only dose what do you do.Thank you

For this case, the medications were not administered under regular at 8am due to patient being nil by mouth but have been prescribed stat doses to cover before the next round of meds. If it is the other way round, it would not be applicable because the patient would have already received the medication.

The details can be placed in before administration. But no signing for any medication before administration.

You can code that and omit the medication due to clinical reasons as you need to seek clarification from the prescriber.

Any medication that is not due at your time you don't code or administer. Just leave it because its not aligned to your time.
