The sequencer on the 2 is great as well, but what you can do with the two extra tracks on the 2S does elevate the synth for me (as someone who's a terrible keyboard player anyway!)

...Let's see if there is a video about how to make 8bit sound on the minibrute... Boom there it is. Thank you so much for this! Two questions though, since I am not very experienced yet: 1. How do you make the sequenced sound to be played only when triggered by your fingers? (When i hit play, it is played nonstop...) 2. My sound is way deeper than yours even though i have the exact same settings as you... at least the ones that I can see on the poties... Many thanks in advance, Cheers, Sebastian
@OscillatorSink2 жыл бұрын
1. Make sure your main "pitch" sequence is empty 2. Try changing octave on the keyboard, otherwise it's probably a case of retuning your oscillators.

Sounds great! And I enjoy the creative patch-around for voltage scaling - thank you. It seems too that if one is willing to just dial in notes by ear (like you do later in the video to make non-octave steps), you could skip some of the patching... yah? Cheers and thanks again for a great video!

I've been holding on to a c64 specifically for sounds like this but It's such a huge pain to interface it with anything. I think I'll sell it and pit it towards a 2s.
@OscillatorSink5 жыл бұрын
You could also try to track down a Therapsid or SID Station if it's that c64 thing in particular. But you can get most of the way here!
@orgoneheart5 жыл бұрын
I just got a secondhand Therapsid mk1 for a reasonable price. It might need a replacement SID chip, as it tends to have a mind of its own, like it has its own unique character and I have to say I absolutely love its sound. As a heads up, Twisted Electrons are releasing another Sid style synth called TherapKid, but it is a digital Sid style, it is a bit cheaper than the analog versions tho.

Honestly, I would pay serious money for SID/FPGASID-based „groovebox” like thing with all the knobs and sequencer, like Circuit Mono Station (which I found really nice, much underrated machine)
@OscillatorSink5 жыл бұрын
Yeah. I think a lot of people would. That'd be killer.

Oscillator Sink Someone should call Elektron, they have knowledge and resources. Many people would just throw they wallets for SidStation in form of Digitaktone box based on that hardware platform.
@OscillatorSink5 жыл бұрын
A Digi Monomachine Mk. 3 you say?..
@_panSlonik_5 жыл бұрын
Oscillator Sink Exactly, but more “correct” in terms of SID compatibility as current hardware and software solutions can be much closer to the original than Monomachine emulation was. Also, it would be better for me personality, as I recently found MD MkII-UW completely out of nowhere, and now I’m hopelessly looking for MnM which is quite unobtainium recently, even considering these offers with crazy prices, almost nothing in EU right now. And I’m surely not the only one looking forward for it :)

@oscillatorsink I've watched all of your videos on the Minibrute. I just put them on in the background when I am messing around. I have a question for you: I've started to experience an issue with the sequencer and was wondering if you have had the same problem. When I hold load and jump from one sequence to another there is a delay of about 2 seconds ? Very strange. The delay was not there before. I wonder if it's got to do with me filling up the spare banks with my own sequences and the cpu can't handle it or something. Cheers, Stephen
@OscillatorSink5 жыл бұрын
I haven't, sorry - are you running the most up to date firmware? You can check using the Midi Control Centre software - updating is pretty painless and it's worth ruling that out...

Would it be possible to use the two VCA inputs to combine the output of the Keyboard out with the voltage from the mod lane and send the output of that to the VCO pitch input?
@OscillatorSink5 жыл бұрын
I think so, but you'd have to get it exactly at unity amplification otherwise it won't scale. I'll have to try.
@tothefinlandstation5 жыл бұрын
@@OscillatorSink According to the manual "This jack [VCA out] will output the combined signals of the In 1 and In 2 jacks at their raw input levels unless they are controlled by an input voltage at the CV jack," but that doesn't seem to be true. It does seem to attenuate the level somewhat. Just running the output from the KYB out to the VCA input, and from the VCA out to the VCO pitch in, and the pitch doesn't track right anymore.
@df0rce4 жыл бұрын
How can you increase the speed of the pitch track? Tempo only affects the Velo track.
@OscillatorSink4 жыл бұрын
Tempo affects all of the tracks... Could you explain what you're trying and what's happening? If you turn up the tempo then all of the tracks should move faster.
@df0rce4 жыл бұрын
In your video at the very end you can see that the pitch track is moving slower. I guess I figured it out. I changed from 1/4 to 1/16 and it run quicker. Thanks
@OscillatorSink4 жыл бұрын
@@df0rce yeah, that's it! As soon as you set the Mod Tracks away from being velocity and pressure, you can change their divisions independently of one another - and their lengths for that matter. One really cool thing to try that's related to that feature is try having the the Mod Tracks provide your gate pattern - patch it into the trigger in of the ADSR. Then you can set the divisions and lengths differently to your pitch sequence. Some really cool melodic ideas can pop out!

Can the sounds made be saved into the Synth? I tried but I don't think it saved. I would go back to try to find it but couldn't.
@OscillatorSink Жыл бұрын
No, you can only save sequences, the synth itself is all analogue - it would be tricky to "save" which patches are plugged in for example.

Wouldn’t it have been easier to double the volts going to the fm input and use the fm pot to fine tune the octave. You wouldn’t have to disconnect the attenuator, didn’t have to use the amp AND have used the fm attenuator for what it’s made for. Bit nitpicking, but I normally like to use as little of the utilities so they remain free for when they are really useful. Great vid, btw, learned a lot from these vids! Edit: maybe your way is a bit cleaner for programming the sequence, now that I think about it...
@OscillatorSink5 жыл бұрын
Poooossssssibly yeah, that should work for the straight octave jumps, but remember that in the higher volt modes you lose a lot of accuracy with the voltages you can pick. It's already a bit tight when it comes to those "in-between" notes on 5v mode in terms of tuning, I think you might struggle to get the more interesting arps in tune on 8v mode (which you'd need to go to to get the same range). Glad you're enjoying the series though!
@CoenBijpost5 жыл бұрын
Oscillator Sink just tried, I found that the best method was to use 1.2V per octave. That way you can fine tune using the fm knob and then every note in the octave is precisely 0.10V, which makes finding in between notes a breeze. Yeah, I’m really finding out a lot of new stuff because of your vids. I love the minibrute 2s! minibtrute 2 users miss out on a lot. The sequencer makes a lot possible, like paraphony, playing a bassline, bass drum and hihat sequence at the same time, and so much more!

@OscillatorSink4 жыл бұрын
You could straight up sequence the quick octave jumps, yes, but it'd be a slightly different vibe as you wouldn't have the free running sequencer running at the same time, so it'd be a little more precise - which could be what you want.
