You can also record to a SSD with the usbc input. It records one input of your choice and you can also use the usbc to add a hotspot. Overall very cool but I really want iso recording. The other thing is I Already use DR for editing and the atem pro iso makes those files for you to take into DR ready to go.

Really cool. For $900, it's a good pitch. What I'd really like this for is a go-bag for an operator who needs to record a guest (with a presentation) for a conference. Stick a camera and a Wireless Pro on it and you're golden. I wouldn't use it for much else due to the audio limitations. If it could handle an interchange with an audio mixer - XLR, MADI, Dante, whatever - then that would be great. As it is ... I rarely have livestreams simple enough that two mics would cut it, and I wouldn't use 3,5mm cables even if I did.

Is there some kind of cover for the ports on the back of the case to protect them during transport or are they always exposed?
@joshuahill84565 ай бұрын
Thanks, Curtis. I am glad to see you review this unit. I bought the original deck earlier this year and ended up returning it after being disappointed by the audio quality - I could only get rid of a nasty buzz with a ground lift on a DI box and felt like the unit really cut out the low end of the audio signal as well. Curious about your thoughts on the audio quality?
@curtisjudd5 ай бұрын
I run my audio through my camera which has pretty decent audio converters. My take is that audio inputs are an area for Blackmagic Design and OSEE to improve.
@mattwruff5 ай бұрын
I think the GoStream is better than the ATEM. The Kit is a great Idea but they just released a GoStream Duo, which I would want as it has 4 SDI and HDMI. You can also use the Macro/Companion to switch between SDI and HDMI and can, with planning, basically give you 8 inputs (4 SDI and 4 HDMI).
@curtisjudd5 ай бұрын
Yes, looks neat. Would love to see it support 8 inputs natively and fit it into a kit like this 👍
@FamilyLifeChurch15 күн бұрын
My understanding is that you still can only use 4...plus the usbc

Thanks Curtis for a very clear and concise comparison. I have one question for you. I do corporate training and I have a very sophisticated set-up, including the basic ATEM mini. I facilitate very complex sessions, using a 3 camera set-up and multiple info sources. Why do you use an ATEM Mini Extreme, with 8 inputs, when your set-up looks much less complex than mine? What am I missing? Thank you, as always, Peter.
@curtisjudd5 ай бұрын
Hi Peter, I typically have 6 sources: main camera, live chat, iPad with slides/agenda, computer for demos, overhead camera, and hyperdeck with background animation for the super source where I combine the slides and main camera over the animated background. I don’t know that my setup is complex, but it does consist of 6 sources.
@petermcginty36365 ай бұрын
@@curtisjudd Hi Curtis and thank you for your prompt response. Straight away, I can see what I am missing: Simplicity! You have a complicated set-up, but it looks simple - Perfection!!! I began livestreaming at the start of COVID and, then, I did not even know what a preamp was used for! Over time, I developed a set-up using a combination of the ATEM, various input sources, glued together with OBS and controlled via a Stream Deck. This set-up allows me to do super sourcing via OBS. I am really happy with it and it works fine, but it is very complicated to work out the solution to a problem caused by an OBS update etc. If I was starting out tomorrow, I would probably buy an ATEM Mini Extreme as it would facilitate super sourcing and it would facilitate the design of a far more simple solution. Thank you for your response and I always appreciate the content in your videos. Cheers, Peter

I didn’t realize this takes the processing away from the computer that changes my thoughts on these, I’m looking at the black magic stem mini pro iso because it lets you record multiple cameras and audio separately. Does this allow for something similar?

This does not currently support iso recording. I will record one channel (presumably the program in most cases).

Really nice device! I currently use OBS proxy + Atem mini. What obs proxy does intuitively is to add support for multiple views with many different gadgets (text, web/html/scripts). For example, outputting local time clock is of interest to me if there is a schedule in local time and audiences may be in other locality. “Next talk begins 14:00” is easier understood if the wait screen includes the clock :) currently working on some 12 video edits and thinking about how to make life easier. I kind of want to remove obsproxy from the workflow to get one less place to push buttons. Less risk of messing up if only one device to manage.
@curtisjudd5 ай бұрын
So, OBS Proxy is sort of like a supersource plus has various plugins like timers?

This is great Curtis, how would you say it compares with the Atomos X Cast? I acquired a X Cast as I currently own a Ninja V, and it made sense for the rare occassion I might need to do a stream. However, this unit looks perfect. One thing I'm particularly in is the fan noise, I still haven't got to the bottom of whether it's my unit or if all Atomos Ninja Vs are as loud as the unit I have, however I do find the fan noise sometimes is a real detractor of good quality audio if in close proximity to the unit, if the GoStream is quieter then I'd definitely be interested.
@curtisjudd5 ай бұрын
It is definitely quieter than the Ninja V. That's the main reason I stopped using ATOMOS recorders unless they're off in video village, at least 5 meters from the microphones on set.

What are your thoughts on this versus the Yolobox Ultra? It's less expensive but doesn't offer ISO recording.
@curtisjudd5 ай бұрын
If you need ISO recording then the OSEE is not an option. I haven’t tried the Ultra, but I’ve had all sorts of software/firmware issues with the other Yoloboxes. Maybe they’ve fixed the issues by now, but as recently as early 2024, I wasn’t impressed.
@OrigEntertainmentOfficial5 ай бұрын
@@curtisjudd Thanks for the quick reply. I've had pretty good luck with the Yolobox Pro. Though I use it mostly as a switcher and we on rare occassion stream from it. This is not something we do a lot and ease of use and less setup is important to me. So the ATEM gets too complex with the necessity of a laptop and additional screens to see what you switching. An all in one seems more up my alley.

How would I connect a rode rodecaster to this?

Well, the way I do it is connect the RODECaster's 1/4" balanced outputs to a camera with XLR inputs and then the camera's connection brings the RODE audio into the switcher.
