In Kronii's defense, Kaela was using present tense when talking about her grandparents fishing. In Kaela's defense, not a native english speaker and not using past tense is perfectly understandable. A perfect storm to create situations like this.

2 words: shit happens, kinda reminds me of my lil bro too, he was around... 3-5 years that time? He really loved his baby floaty, and always used it when we went to swimming pool, I kinda noticed that he's already overgrown the floaty, but since my parent still let him used it, i just went along, he was fine for a moment when he got in, after i put my attention somewhere else, and look back at him, he's already flipped looney toons way with his leg up in air, i just float there processing what i saw and how i should feel and do, thankfully, dad sees him and quickly react and flip him back, he doesn't cries, so, i guess it's the same case as kronii

My grandfather once saved a small child from drowning in the mid-70s. The child's father was fishing off a weir in the Northern Territory and was letting the kid play in the water at his feet (a damn stupid thing to do, my mother was never allowed to play out there even before this incident). The worst happens, the child slips off the slick rock and falls into the fast moving water. Before the child's father even had a chance to put down his fishing line, my grandfather had lept into the water and swam out to the kid. He grabbed his shirt and pulled him to the surface, then swam them both back to shore. The child's father was extremely thankful. The child's mother had been searching for something in their car and had missed the whole thing, it just happened too fast. She was very confused about why her child was walking towards her from downriver with a strange man, both completely soaked. My mother never questioned why she wasn't allowed to play on the weir after that :P Luckily, it wasn't high tide. The river would have been much deeper, and lots of crocodiles like to use the high water to cross the weir without exposing themselves too much. I'm sure my grandfather would have jumped in anyway, crocs or not, but the survival of both of them would have depended entirely upon luck and how hungry those monsters were that day.

This somehow reminded me about almost drowning as a kid myself. All I remember was being at a pool party of some kind (I don't know if it was a birthday or whatever, this was some time when Avatar was a newer movie (not The Last Airbender). They had this inflatable lounging raft that had a back and arm rests as well as an opening near where the feet would be. My younger ass wasn't great at swimming above water, but I was fine with being underwater. However, unless I had a mask on I wouldn't open my eyes because I didn't like water in my eyes. So what I tried to do was go under the water from the side of the raft and swim in through the opening at the feet. ... Last thing I remember before waking up on a chair was bumping my head on the bottom of the raft and not being able to find my way to the foot hole. ... Or above the surface in general.
