"Most people do get a better Edge It's Called FireFox" How True
@captainkeyboard10073 жыл бұрын
Keyboard use came before the track mouse. They are valuable to working in the operating system. I am looking forward to learning the keyboard shortcuts in making selections in the ribbon of Microsoft Office programs. Before I became a keyboard specialist, I became an avid typist. Now, I can do more than just typewrite documents. Like you, I use the mouse habitually. I am receptive to learning more keyboard shortcuts. I have learned more using the Microsoft Office suite of programs that I would unlikely learn in a typical job. Happy Keyboarding!

I often don't use the keyboard to operate Windows. I do struggle without a mouse on a Mac, and can't wait for both of them to switch to touch displays for analogue input. Interesting fact, most computers didn't have mice when I started using them. They didn't use GUIs and desktops, just a command line, or more often some form of Basic interpreter. When I started using a pointing device for drawing on them, it was a "light pen", which picked up the raster scan on the CRT monitor, and that would tell the computer where the pen was touching on the screen. So, in some senses, "touch screen" (or at least touch *to* screen, with what we'd _now_ call a "stylus") was around _before_ the mouse was popularised. That's also a far more intuitive way to use a GUI desktop, and we're at risk of becoming as attached to the backward, un-intuitive mouse (or, as Philip and I prefer, trackball) as we have become to the less productive QWERTY keyboard layout. When I first used Windows (Windows 3.0) I still didn't have regular access to a mouse. The were expensive, and broke quite quickly. I learned how to get around the GUI, and continue working on my computer while saving up for replacement mice / mouse-es. XD

There actually IS a legitimate reason to use a computer without a mouse, and contrary to popular belief, you can do pretty much everything that you would normally do with a mouse from the keyboard. I am totally blind, therefore I can't use a mouse with Windows because it is simply too visual for me to use efficiently. I do everything from the keyboard with the help of screen reading software that optimizes applications to be used with the keyboard and a braille display that lets me read everything on the screen in braille just as you would in print. I use Windows, Mac OS, and Linux this way, and I am learning to program like this as well. I also run a blog and youTube channel with no sighted assistance. It really isn't that hard to let go of the mouse if you have the right tools. I'd love to see you try out NVDA, which is a free and open source screen reader, and do all of your normal tasks blind folded. It will be a WAY better experience than Windows Narrator! I literally never touch Narrator unless I have a new computer and I'm trying to get a real screen reader up and running because it simply isn't polished enough for me to depend on. 😊
