@@Zonca2 No, but his entire train of logic rests on the assumption that his father fed Ryosuke their new address, therefore the father must have been alive at least until the time they moved into their new place. He's basically assuming the phone call or something similar must have happened.

Yeah, the immediate realization that we as an audience SAW Ai call their dad 12 years ago right before her death - which cannot happen if he was dead 15 years ago. It's a piece of clue given to us, that so many reactors completely missed. I'm SO glad these guys picked up on it! It's also diabolical that the evidence was only shown to us as audience, and never given to Aqua or anyone else in the story lol.

i hope this episodes filters out all the fake fans that think the 'real story' is over and drop the anime because they think the only thing left is 'idol shit' then shamefully picky it up when it becomes peak again in season 4 XD

That sequence with Ruby and the producer was beautiful yet again, also Kana was so funny this episode I love her. While it’s nice to see Aqua let go it’s kind of sad he lost something that connected him with Ai. I’m wondering if there’s gonna be a point where he’ll regain the star because he finds something else driving him that’s not just living for revenge

It was beautifully animated, but I found the flat colors a little disappointing. Like Ben and Anna, I was kind of expecting the colors to get more saturated and detail to increase as the animation went on to represent Hiruma's burgeoning inspiration. I wonder if the reason for the week break was that they were falling behind in production and this sequence got a bit wallpapered as a result. If so, I hope they finish it for the Blu-Ray.

Something worth remembering for the next episode: In season one, Aqua said he planned to keep Akane around to learn more about Ai (including who his father might be). Yet, during all these 10 episodes, Aqua never asked Akane anything about Ai or even tried to create any situation for Akane to use her investigative skills. Still, Aqua always blames himself for everything, so he will most likely feel guilty just for the fact that he intended to use Akane, even if he didn't actually do it in the end.

Anyway, joke I remembered and decided to copy/paste from The Mammoth Book of Humor (published 2000): A salesman for a major West Coast computer company was demonstating the latest model at a convention. He boasted that no matter what question the computer was asked, it would come up with the correct answer. While everyone else asked the computer questions about mathematical problems and the circumference of the Earth, one smartass decided to show off by asking the computer: "Where is my father?" A minute later came the print-out: "Your father is working in a bar in Chicago." "Ha!" crowed the smartass. "The supposedly infallible computer is wrong. My father is dead." The salesman was anxious not to lose face over this so he came up with a suggestion. "Perhaps if you rephrased the question, the computer might understand it better?" So the smartass amended the question to "Where is my mother's husband?" and waited for the reply. A minute later came the print-out: "Your mother's husband is dead. But your father is still working in a bar in Chicago."

I’m leaving this comment here before I start watching the reaction, so I hope you guys talk about it…🤗 I haven’t read the manga but I’d say this, to me it doesn’t make any sense: if what Himekawa said is true, that is that this Uehara (his father and Aqua’s supposed father) killed himself when he was 5 years old, it would mean that Aqua was only 2 at best, but we know that when Ai was killed Aqua and Ruby were almost 4 and by then Uehara would have been dead for a year or more, but Ai called her babies father just a couple days before her death, so they MUST be two different people… Of course there’s also the chance that Himekawa is misremembering and I could be HORRIBLY wrong and it was really him, but that’s how I feel… If it really was him I’d be really happy for Aqua, because he wouldn’t be haunted by his past anymore, but discovering that the dad was such a “mediocre” guy and that he died this way would be quite anticlimactic…

Thinking back early on, I don't recall Aqua being aware that Ai contacted his father before Ai's murder. Aqua probably just assumes that Ai never had contact with his father post Aqua being born. There are other reasons why Aqua shouldn't be assuming his father is dead, but I think more than anything Aqua is desperate to cling on to a reason for him to be able to live in peace after all this time living solely for revenge.

@mcqueendies I think that you’re spot on: I don’t think either Aqua or Ruby knew that Ai contacted their father a few days before her death… I also think that Aqua was able to accept his father(?)’s death so “easily” because it was the easiest path available for him: he has waited desperately for 12-13 years for a chance to finally be able to live a normal life: without pain, regrets, anger or vengeance, just like any other adolescent… So it was the perfect opposite for him: he’s dead, perfect, don’t ask any other question, don’t dig any further, take advantage of this chance and move on.

@@mcqueendies He can’t have been assuming that. Ai and the twins had only recently moved into that apartment (you can see over the course of S1E1 that both big timeskips involve a move to a nicer place as Ai becomes more popular). His theory this whole time has been that the father leaked the apartment’s location to the stalker; that requires the father to have gotten it from Ai.

30 minute discussion, nice! I know Ai did not tell the kids she contacted their father, what I don't know is when Himikawa's "parents" died. If I'm Aqua that would have been my first question, was it before or after Ai's murder? Also as determined as Aqua has been to get revenge would he really not have ANY further doubts? Would he give up that easily? The only logical reason I can come up with is that deep down he truly wants to be free of this burden and live this new life he's been given.

Those first couple of weeks trying contacts for the first time are rough since your eyes are so sensitive and not used to it, but once you get past that point it's fine. I eventually gave up on them though since I also have bad allergies and the combination just didn't mix for me. Sticking with my glasses lol

The potential twist I can think of, as mentioned here is if Himekawa's father is the same with Aqua, but not Uehara. Which would lead me to believe to be someone from LaLaLai (Kindaichi). Then Himekawa could be looking for the real father as well. Another person looking for a father should be Ruby. Its strange this never came up. If they are going to Miyazaki, she will find out the doctor (Goro) was dead, and somehow not by accident, she will be on a revenge path (which this episode hinted I think). The other key person missing for a while is the Strawberry productions President. He can feed information, and its a stretch, but he could still be the father as well. And potentially, Ai can be reincarnated also!? I try to not think about it, but what about Goro, and Sarina's parents? Its waste of time for the show to include, but they are so ignored...

Sarina was an enthusiastic fan of Ai during her lifetime. That fact is ignored. Have you forgotten that Aqua is Goro? Akua is a different person from Goro. It is the psyche of a teenage male. The element of reincarnation is not necessary for this work.
