If a kid doesn't understand the jokes yet, he/she is too young and won't even notice it. When you are demonstrating the puzzle you are over-riding the mechanism (that's the clicking noise on axes that are not adjacent to the bandaged piece). The mechanism is meant to not allow turns on those cuts at all, and if used as intended the geometry is indeed deeper-than origin. However, if used like you're showing it, it is just the equivalent of a normal cube with an edge piece glued to two corner pieces. It is no longer deeper-than-origin.

When you first got it was tight or loose? When tension-ing it, did you have to screw it hard? All jokes aside, I was surprised how intricate the mechanisms were. It's really a neat puzzle. It's also one of those things that should young children watch it, they'll probably think 'oh, that's a funny design' without explicitly knowing exactly why we find it hilarious. I think you managed the review well. It might have been a bit creepier using a woman (especially one who was paid) to do it.
