Just messing around in the dark with an action camera. I really like pushing tech to its limits, even when it's impractical. Because why not... Drop me some comments down below to let me know what you think. Thanks for watching. shootz!

I appreciate your low light test. Looks like that when on wheels the OA4 stabilizes well on this extremly low light. Did you apply some kind of noise reduction in post or is it the original camera output? Moreover... looks like you used dewarp mode... how do you like the video resolution on frame borders? Is there any kind of interpolation degradation? Thanks.

Yeah. I’d say in regular rocksteady it’s fine in low light. It’s the other modes like horizon leveling or rocksteady + that don’t do well in extremely low light. No noise reduction applied. I did bring the shadows down tiny bit to hide some noise. And yes, it’s standard dewarp mode. Overall, it’s better than I expected, especially because in reality I won’t usually be in such low light. Thanks for watching.

Very nice, simple test. Action 4 makes great strides in low light digital stabilization. Thanks for sharing your ISO ideas. It’s a battle to keep noise out of the black areas yet still keep the dimly-lit areas looking as bright as they would with the naked eye. E.g. 3:58 . . . doesn’t that street-lighted traffic circle look brighter to the naked eye? would 3200 ISO approximate that - yet inject distracting noise? And since most are watching on small screens these days, is that noise really a problem? The noise will drive us nuts on our 27 inch editing monitors, but maybe to the final viewer it’s OK. I can’t wait until October 25 to order the Pocket3, just to see how these situations gets sorted out with a 1-inch sensor and mechanical stabilization.

I. Have been testing since I got this thing and now that the pocket 3 is around the corner I’m wondering if that will be a better camera for my use case. Thanks for watching.

DJi has nailed the Auto low light quite well, and I can now put my other cameras to rest, kind of the Sony ZV1M2 compares to the Action 4, says a lot for me. thanx for sharing. FISH

I have the Sony ZV1 mark I and the Action 4, I don't know what type of tests you have done but the Sony is infinitely superior in low light conditions, what's more, I wouldn't dare do something professional with the Action 4 because its sensor It's still tiny, I'm not saying that the ZV1 is excellent in those conditions either, but at least it is usable. Dji has invested more in marketing than in hardware development.

What have you been running the NR and Sharpness settings at in low-light? This seems to be something that everyone glosses over. I am going to do a bunch of low light testing this weekend with my 4.

I had both at -2 for this test but doing more tests this week with NR at -1. Sharpness is still at -2. didn’t get around to editing the video yet, but looking at the footage, I think maybe NR -1 is the way to go.

@@Jus10video Please post up your thoughts after more playing with the camera. Like I said, I am going to do some serious low light testing this up coming weekend.

ISO 1600 is the highest for mostly footage in the dark with little noise.
