Currently determining the best way to pack my hiking poles, snowshoes, microspikes, crampons, and other winter mountain hiking gear. I am curious how bag performs in snow, sleet, freezing rain, wintry mix. I noticed reviews of the older models the 2018 model is missing features. Control over the armband hiking pole catch and carry strap missing. Floating lid inside mesh pocket missing. Rain cover only in Europe. Rubber bottom missing. Multiple notches along bag for additional straps missing. I just replaced my REI Traverse 48 with Osprey Atmos AG 65 Rigby Red. I live in New England where it pays to have bright colors on your bags. Wear a dark colored bag and you are going to be another statistic on Mount Washington. If you have a dark colored bag you are going to get hit by cars on your way to/from a mountain. For that reason, I skipped the Osprey dark grey rain cover and went with the REI duck cover bright orange. Safety and functionality before fashion.
@Enwild6 жыл бұрын
With a pack cover and liner, your gear inside should stay dry. The Atmos exterior will definitely get wet and soak through if exposed to rain for long enough, but that's not different from most other packs. Definitely not a bad idea to carry some brightly colored items in case you ever need to be visible. Thanks for watching!

Would you reckon aether 60 or atmos 50. I am thinking atmos would be necessary but i could always have the option to bring more with the aether. Is it possible to reduce the size of the aether drastically to compare it similar to the atmos? Thanks
@Enwild5 жыл бұрын
Hi! So, based on specs of the Aether 60, side compression straps enable you to cinch down your pack to keep contents safely and securely in place and also double as lash points for additional gear. Buckled straps that pass over the front of the packbag are designed to further enhance the compressibility of the pack and provide yet another place to lash gear. This means, that you would be able to compress the pack into a slightly smaller size. The small version has a volume range of 3478 cu in (small) and 3845 cu in (large). The Aether also comes with a detachable day pack. The Atmos will give you volume range between 2868 cu in (small) and 3242 cu (large). If you are looking for more details about the Aether pack- check out our website: www.backcountryedge.com/osprey-aether-ag-60-2017.html?.com&Mqe_c51ukfI

I'm torn between the 65 and the 50. My thinking is I can go with the 65 and if I've too much space I can just lose the hood? Great channel BTW. Subscribed because of this video.
@Enwild5 жыл бұрын
Hi Ewan! A lot of people find themselves in a similar situation, but it really depends on what you need the pack for. If your gear takes up less pack space, you can probably get away with the smaller capacity. In general (for the same style trips) people tend to go for lower capacities as they continue hiking and figure out exactly what they need/don't need. Some trips (like winter hikes) do require extra space for critical gear, so there are important considerations other than having a small and lightweight pack. Happy Trails!

The Aether is capable of carrying more weight than the Atmos. If you will be carrying more than 35 - 40 pounds most of the time, we'd suggest the Aether. The Atmos has a more breathable back panel and is lighter weight overall.

The two packs have very different suspension systems, so it would be good to know which you find more comfortable. Should I consider of changing my Tatonka Bison 90? Everyone says that Atmos is super comfortable. Personally I don't feel any lack of comfort wearing my 3+kg Bison and 15 kg of stuff in it. Some extra free space is also doesn't bring any disturbance (I can always pull the straps). Will Atmos bring me into the whole new level of comfort? Because this can be the only reason for me to by this pack and I'm struggling to do it.

Hi Vlas! If that pack you currently own works well for you, we would suggest staying with that pack until it's lived its full life :) If you find that your pack is too uncomfortable or you need to change pack styles, we'd highly recommend the Atmos for comfort!

Im considering the 65 l over the 50 l because of the two zippered pockets on the front. Dont think i need the extra space but then again i dont have to fill up the extra space. Really just means i can pack and access gear more easily as long as Im disciplined about not packning more junk than i need. Or what would you do. Might need to carry more if the family expands. Thanks!
@Enwild6 жыл бұрын
The extra pockets on the larger pack are convenient and it doesn't add much overall weight. From your comment, it seems like you are leaning in the direction of getting the larger pack, we'd agree with getting the 65 for the versatility.

Hi I've been looking to upgrade my first model Osprey Volt 60 to this pack, I assume this will carry more weight better.
@Enwild5 жыл бұрын
Each pack has the same recommended maximum weight (50lbs), so how comfortable the carry is will come down to which style you prefer. One main difference between the Volt 60 and the Atmos AG 65 is the backpanel. The Atmos uses suspended mesh, so your back doesn't come into contact with the pack itself. The Volt has a firm, foam backpanel that places the pack closer to the wearer. Hope that helps!
@sariehan5 жыл бұрын
which one better? atmos ag 65 or aether ag 70?
@Enwild5 жыл бұрын
Hey Sarie, good question! Both packs use the Anti-Gravity system, so the carry will feel similar. The Aether AG 70 incorporates foam along its backpanel, so it will be more supportive than the Atmos AG at heavier pack loads. The Atmos AG uses tensioned mesh for its entire back, so it will transfer weight more effectively and have better ventilation than the Aether AG. Happy Trails!

How much weight will it carry upto ?
@Enwild6 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the question. Osprey claims it will carry up to 50 pounds, but we wouldn't recommend carrying that much weigh most of the time. If you have a base weight of about 20 pounds before all of your extra gear and food, this is a good option.

Hello, I have just bought one last week. It seems to be a 2020 version as per the serial number inside the bag. @Enwild5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for asking! I personally own the women’s Aura 65 and it was a bit squeaky in the beginning. It just took a little breaking in and no more squeak! We think the older styles squeaked because of the tensioned fabric overtop of their metal frame, but it should work itself out after a few hikes. -Gear Specialist Becky

Are this new model don't have rattling sound on the trampoline suspension?

We believe it was more of a squeaking sound rather than a rattle. A lot of internal frame packs will squeak a bit in the beginning. We found that once they are broken in after a few hikes, they should be fine.

@Enwild6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for asking! Osprey made some great changes to the Atmos packs for 2018. The common wear areas, like the bottom corners of the bag, the front stretchy pocket and the side bottle pockets were bolstered to be longer lasting. The mesh on the back panel was also made to be more abrasion resistant and more breathable all at the same time! The load bearing zippers were upgraded to a thicker tooth. In our opinion, the newer version is worth it for the long lasting durability.

@Enwild5 жыл бұрын
Hey, good question! The important thing to consider is that these packs have very different backpanels and weight transfer systems. The Atmos uses suspension mesh (Osprey's Anti-Gravity), so your back won't actually be touching the pack. The Aircontact has a padded foam backpanel that's been lined with mesh, and your back will rest against the pack as you carry. Each pack has a unique feel and which is better depends a lot on whether you prefer the Anti-Gravity or Aircontact system. The primary differences are the suspension and weight. The Atmos has a wraparound mesh that is all one piece and really "hugs" the torso, and weigh about a half pound less, though it can't carry as much weight. The Aether has a mesh backpanel with separated components, meaning it doesn't fit quite as tightly. It is a little heavier but can carry more weight.

All other hiking trips will be weekend long AT trips, so would you recommend buying this or the aether ag 70? I’ve heard that the atmos is much more comfortable, but the aether has a larger volume and weight capacity.

Hi John, thanks for asking. We would recommend looking into how much overall weight you plan to carry. As you mentioned, the Aether's suspension system is capable of carrying more weight than the Atmos. If you will be carrying more than 35 - 40 pounds most of the time, we'd suggest the Aether. Under 35 pounds and we'd suggest the Atmos because it has a more breathable back panel and is lighter weight overall.

The size capacity will depend on the packed size of your gear. if you can carry all your essentials and food with the 50, we'd recommend the smaller capacity to avoid overpacking. But the 65 has two barrel pockets up front that the 50 does not have. Those can be really good for organizing gear. I use them for my water filter, raincover, and other small gear that I would want to access quickly while hiking.
