Never seen this show, but that airplane scene is a good metaphor for what it feels like to be an American citizen vs our government. We're on a crashing plane, our government calls itself a hero, when really it's the root of most problems. Our government doesn't care about us, & we have as much power to stop it as that people who stood up and tried to rush Homelander when they realized he was leaving them to die. Homelander coming in all smiles, but then fury & glowing eyes the second people call him out. (See: the current student protests for Palestine on college campuses...and the history of our government & their violence against peaceful student protesters as one small microcosm.)

What’s funny is that Homelander couldn’t save anyone on that plane even if he wanted to. I believe that his powers aren’t like Superman’s or Omni-Man’s so he can’t just lift, push, or pull an already in flight object like a plane because then he’d need to also be in the air. The boys is the one show where I really enjoy watching people’s reactions to it and something I’ve noticed is that women seem to get the read on homelander more than men do and typically in women’s reactions of the series they show more disgust at homelander. Obviously It’s not that the male watchers don’t find the character to be a terrible person as much female watchers but they typically show less disgust.
