“이것찍고 고열에 고생했다지요” Well, there’s a bit of a controversy about that, actually. Here’s what I wrote when the whole film was reviewed five months ago: “[Gene Kelly’s] widow, Patricia Ward Kelly says it was true-“He was very sick with a temperature of about 103 degrees [Fahrenheit, 39.5ºC] when he shot the iconic dance number in the rain,” she told _Business Insider._ On the other hand, Kelly told his biographer that he had “a very bad cold” during the shooting, _and,_ decades after the shoot, he said the scene’s camera operator “had the toughest part.” _If_ Kelly had a high fever while shooting that scene, I think he probably would have mentioned it. (I really hope he _didn’t_ have a high fever-I _don’t_ want to watch that scene, thinking he had.)” I’ve thought about it a few times since, and, aside from the fact that Kelly himself doesn’t mention it, watching the scene carefully now, I just don’t think he had a high fever. I mean, look at him! I think someone really _can’t_ move that way for over three minutes-and the scene had to have taken hours to film-and have a fever of 39.5º C. He doesn’t have flushed cheeks (well, that could be makeup) or glassy eyes. He probably did have “a very bad cold” during the shooting, which would have been bad enough. I would suspect that Patricia Ward Kelly was “embellishing” a bit to burnish (i.e., make shine by polishing, maybe 빛내다?) his memory.
